I just bought a lowering 'kit' from MIZU to lower the shock on my Ulysses

Has anyone fitted one? Any chance of a few pics or description of how to fit it?

Do I need a paddock stand or Jack or can I do it in situ?

Any advice greatly appreciated ; )

I have not done a lowering kit on the Uly but have on other bikes, for other people.

I think the MIZU unit slides in from the bottom IIRC. Under and inside of the spring?

You will need to jack the bike up to get the rear shock unloaded of its burden. Loosen your bolt(s) first, then jack up the bike using either a bike lift, a floor jack under the exhaust or, if your overhead will support it, by hoist.

A paddock stand will still require the bike to sit on its own weight on the shock so while it immobilizes the bike, it doesn't unload the suspension.

Once the bike begins to rise, only jack it until the burden on the bottom bolt is relieved and slides out without busting a knuckle. That should give you enough room in which to move the shock body up and begin the process of inserting the spacer thingy into the springy thingy. It will also make it easier to realign the shock with the lower mount (on the swingarm) without having to do a lot of excess raising or lowering of the bike on the jack. During this time, you'll have three points of contact with the floor, the front wheel, the kickstand and your jack. Thus, the interest in not having to go up and down unnecessarily. Not saying its not safe, just that I don't like to have to do it if I can help it.

<Insert instructions for how to install the MIZU unit here>

When done and ready to reinsert the lower shock mount hardware, use the torque specs for that bolt, 15-17 ft lbs or 65-70.5 Nm if you come from over where Whitworth stuff and James May comes from. (pg 2-65, 2-66 in the manual I think, or somewhere near there)

In the future, avoid using "in situ" in a place as high falutin as this. You can be kicked out of places for being too uppity.

Hahaha.. 'in situ'? really - over here that phrase is (as they say over here) 'common as muck'!

Thanks for the advice though - much appreciated!

Any report on how it went?

I'll post a report once I've done it - I'm off over Easter, so hoping to do it then

That said, I'm having my seat re-upholstered over Easter too - if the seat isn't too high after re-upholstering, I may not do the lowering at all.

I'll let you know!

Curious to know how you are going to lower the front?

I was thinking about doing so, but it seems that the bars get in the way of the fork tubes.

I'm guessing I'd need 1" bar risers, and then shorter bars to keep them at the same height.

I will take some detail installed photos tonight as well as a close up of the removed piece. Yes the MIZU disc/link/whatever piece is slipped in when the spring is compressed. I have noticed that once I dropped the stance, I had to crank up the damp/rebound all the way to take out the bounce. I recently covered 1,300 miles 2 up and full luggage, the only time it felt springy was real, extremely uneven pavement and speed bumps.
