It is long overdue that the driveway finally dried up, and the streets are clear of enough ice to get the bike out.

For all you that get to ride year around, don't feel bad for me. I had to shuffle snowmobiles in the third stall to get my bike out.

We have had one heck of a sled season this year! Note the snowbank in the background. It was twice the height of the mailbox not too long ago!! I could sit on top of the bank on my sled and see over the top of the covered snowmobile trailer!

(please don't bitch at me about my lack of gear in the one pic. I was just warming the engine up after it's first crank of the season)

Snazzy bike! Looks happy to be outside! That does not look like a picture taken in April.

Glad you made lemons into lemonade and enjoyed the sleds. Most of my family back north is ready for this winter to be done.

Happy riding!

We are supposed to have 51 today, and 56/sunny tomorrow!! Time to start riding to work again! It was a brisk 30 on the way to work today, so the bike was not a thought yet.

I'm all about buying our way out of the recession, but I won't be doing it at the gas station!! My computer still fits in the saddlebag!

Biff,

How far are you from Duluth, MN?

Dilworth is a solid 4.5 hours from Duluth. (238 miles) We are exactly on opposite sides of the state East to West. Moorhead/Dilworth are on the MN side of the river from Fargo, ND.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=d ilworth,+mn&daddr=Duluth,+MN&hl=en&geocode=FQhDywI dnH48-ilny8yyHcbIUjHUoahvhDbPmw%3BFXDoyQIde6iC-in_ Ny54flKuUjFyDFjrdr_9kA&mra=ls&sll=46.786672,-92.10 0485&sspn=0.674198,1.013489&g=Duluth,+MN&ie=UTF8&z =7

We had light rain this morning, but I rode it to work anyway! WOO WOO! It's forecasted for 59 and sunny this afternoon.

Red River is at flood stage at 18ft, we hit 35ft this morning. We don't need any rain at all!

I grew up in Duluth, thus the question. Been thru Moorhead more times than I count.

Not missing the bugs living here in Vegas.

I was hoping to ride my Uly up to Duluth this weekend. Awesome area to ride around. Though your right MNVIKING, bugs can really suck certain times of the year.

I was down by the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers yesterday evening with a kid I mentor thinking it would be cool to canoe through all the walking trails in crosby park which is closed due to flooding. Haven't seen the rivers so high since 2001.

We are finally nearing a crest here in Fargo. The river is currently at 37.99 or almost 20ft over flood stage.

We have had a 100 year flood and 500 year flood in the past 4 years. We were prepared for this one.

Stay high n dry biffdotorg. That flooding stuff is no joke. Flat out scary if y'all ask me.

MNviking and Dmmblaze-so cool to know there's other Buellers-uly riders at that-with Duluth connections. I spent some time in and around Duluth teaching last summer, only encountered one other Buell, and that was a lightning on the west end. Tried to hook up with North shore based Charliezulu for a ride, hope we connect this year for a ride.

I went to UMD a zillion years ago and still have friends and family in Duluth. Don't think there is another place I'd rather spend my summers.

The bugs were bad inland-darn skeeters-not so much near the big lake except the black flies when we went sailing on Superior. Hate those things!

FLTwisty,

I've heard there's quite the Buell ownership group in Duluth. My bro rides a 2001 Lightning and still lives in Duluth. Said they even have their own bike night.

Cool your finally getting your bike out.
Our last snow banks are down to almost nothing here in south-central MN.
Rode to work tue-fri this week lows around 40 and highs around 60.
The ice on the lakes is breaking up this week so in finally feels like this winter is over.

"The ice on the lakes is breaking up this week so in finally feels like this winter is over."

Woo hoo, that means you can run right from the sauna into the lake without having to pause to cut a hole in the ice first.

Not that I'd know anything about that : )

We ran down to the Minnesota Twins game on Sunday. They brought the UMD Bulldogs out on the field for a warm welcome from the fans! Very cool to see.

We come from the land of the Fighting Sioux up here, so it was sad to see the Sioux get knocked out of the frozen four.

75 degrees in Minneapolis for the Twins game at Target Field, it was amazing. Then came back to just around 50 degrees in the Fargo/Moorhead area.

I think this will require some miles on the Buell this weekend to go find the lakes with ice out! I summarized all the sleds last Saturday, and they are ready to be put away and the boat to come out!

(twistygirl) i love the sauna comment. I too have had the joy of cutting the ice with our t-handle saw just for a place to jump in from the sauna. The key is well placed towels around the edge so you don't cut your knees climbing back out!

"Damn Finlanders!!"

Life (especially in Northern MN during the winter) would be way less fun without the Finn's contribution of the sauna. My dad made it a priority to put an electric powered Sauna in our basement, but the wood fired one at my Grandparents farm was awesome! Growing up, every Saturday night was Sauna night. You took one whether or not you needed to!

And around here you need to pronounce it correctly. "Sowna" (smile)

We are expected to get at least 2" of snow tonight/tomorrow! That forecast was downgraded from 8" earlier this week.

WILL IT EVER END!!!!

Good grief y'all. Winter's gotta stop soon. We Central Floridians, OTOH, have already been in the 90's, blech. It's here 'til October

And Biff-when I moved south and heard people slaughter the pronunciation of sauna, calling it "sanna", my feathers would get all ruffled. I finally just gave up.

One solution was getting certified to teach in MN. It is music to my ears hearing people pronounce sauna properly! B.

Bad news in NE Wisconsin. More snow coming! Boo-hissss!!
Have been riding since the later part of March, when the roads were clear.
Want the spring to actually show here. We will have winter end and then all-of-a sudden it will be summer. Have to love the northern latitudes.
Someone needs to choke that ground hog, didn't he predict a early end to winter?

Nipsey! Welcome back to Minnesota!

Some of my favorite riding on dirt/snow are north of Park Rapids.

Here is a clip from this winter running to Emmaville on sled.

http://youtu.be/0cDUFS8-Hac

And here is a picture from that same trail in the summer!

Beautiful country and I plan on putting the boat into the lakes up there on a regular basis!

Park Rapids is a good area for riding. I like camping on Leech lake up past Walker too.
