I finally took the plung after waiting for months on the insurance. My HD Street Rod was properly destroyed by a back hoe last year and I couldn't fathom getting another HD, so Buell came to mind, a 2009 12X. I picked it up yesterday from the dealer and got "lost" for a couple hundred miles on the way home. Awesome bike. See you on the road. | ||

Congrats on the bike! I'm sure you'll love it. I have to ask though - How does a back hoe destroy a bike? Were you riding through a construction site? Did a back hoe operator get drunk and go on a rampage? Any pictures? | ||

H-D Street Rods have a very polarizing effect on people much like Jeremy Clarkson and can often incite a back hoe operator into a spittle-flecked rage. I'm not at all surprised frankly. At least he properly destroyed it. Congratulations on drinking the kool-aid (and keeping it down) and welcome to a very dark and damp place...Buell ownership.  | ||

The day before a trip to Italy, I parked the Street Rod out side in the parking lot, 5:30 PM, and a construction worker came by to pick up his back hoe. He didn't check the area around him and bang, that was it. I'll try to get some of the pictures uploaded. | ||

I was told it was a 08 and the offer was written for a 08. Hell, all the paperwork said 08, including loan, registration, insurance. It wasn't until my wife and I picked it up that we saw it was made in October 08, 09 model. Now to go through and get everything changed. | ||

Did having registration/insurance for an 2008 but really owning a 2009 (i.e. the VIN number) cause any issues at the DMV? | ||

Mine's an '07 built in Sept '06. Had no issues with insurance or registration. Hmmmmmm...this happens on cars without issue, IIRC. | ||

Jake, his bike is an 09. The 2008 model production ended long before October 2008. | ||

I figured. In fact, I recall several years ago asking a question here re: D.O.M. vs M.Y. when it came to changes/improvements in the engine. It was a noob post by me. | ||

No problems with local registration or insurance, they work well with the military here. Put another couple hundred miles on today and completed the MSF course yesterday on it. Only things that seem to bug me are the gear lever is to short and it doesn't like to run between 2k and 3k for slow speed turns. Had to use a lot of clutch during the course. I figure the Touratech adjustable lever and Erik Buell Racing ECM will fix those problems. | ||

The XB9 gearing conversion will do wonders for low speed/rpm performance. | ||

From what I hear, so will an Erik Buell Racing ECM. and it won't negatively affect highway RPM and mileage. | ||

OK- two weeks later and 2050kms. I've ridden this thing, what I call Bob ( Big Orange Bike) around Germany. I have some comments now. The ride is great, comfort, handling (except on the autobahn, 80+ MPH), cornering etc. Only problems that seem to exist was the 2000 to 3000 rpm engine control, Erik Buell Racing is looking into an ECM for european spec Uly, and the gear lever being put on the "wrong" way. Rizoma makes a "normal" lever that I need to look into. Today the stealership allowed me to have a XR1200 as a loaner. It has a shifter that may work on the Uly with some work. Other than that, I'm just starting to get it dirty. | ||

Whats wrong with the shifter?.... is it the same as a racing setup or what I call street shifting? I call normal (street) 1 down and 4 up. | ||

Direction it is coming from. I'm used to the lever being attached under the foot peg or somewhere near where the foot peg is attached. Uly comes from the front. | ||

Gotcha, its a visual thing not a performance thing. It seemed weird to me at first also, now I dont even notice it. |
