I was wondering if any of you guys have had a leak from this area.
The oil leak is small. More like a weep. Its happening on both cylinders. Its definitely coming from the bolts. All surrounding area's are clean and dry so it's not oil leaking down from anywhere. Do these require any sealant on the threads? I checked the Service Manual but it does not state to put any sealant on the threads before installing the bolts and torquing them. |

Do you do anything about the weep or do you just clean the area off from time to time? I am wondering if this is a normal thing or should I have it checked out. Looking at the service manual, the bolts just keep the lifter from rotating. Do you know If you can remove the bolts easily with out having anything being disturbed internally or not? |

If oil is not leaking on the ground before the regular cleaning interval; leave it alone. If the weeping bothers you. Remove the screws and apply some high temp thread sealant and call it good. I've not removed "those" particular screws. So refer to the service manual before doing so. I use this: http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/thread _compounds/a_thread_sealants/auto_Permatex_High_Te mperature_Thread_Sealant.htm on the drain plugs. |

Ok cool thanks Tom. I was thinking about using the permatex since I have some already. Was just wondering if it was something more serious. The weep doesn't bother me and I actually cleaned it last year but I noticed it again since I just took the bike out of from its winter nap. It's was nice enough after the rains here to clear the salt of the roads. I took it for a good ride. After bringing it back I changed the oil and the primary fluid. Did a once over and noticed the oil stain there. |

Mine weeps a little out of a bunch of areas. No drips, runs. Nothing ever on the ground. Bike is not "leaking" or using oil abnorminally. I've come to put it in the "Don't worry about it and ride." catagory. If it bothers you, seal'um up and call it good. >>>If oil is not leaking on the ground before the regular cleaning interval; leave it alone. What cleaning interval??? You mean it's once, maybe twice a year cleaning, when there's so much mud it's caked a little on the front jug? |
