I bought the factory upgrade for the 77 connector and they call for a specific Harley Davidson crimping tool. I don't even have to ask what they charge for the HD tools, so can anybody tell me what you've used? It doesn't look to me like there's very much extra wire, so I definitely want to measure twice and cut once on this one.

A needle -nose pliers to fold the metal over the wire and then solder.

The upgraded connector is a Duetsch connector which to properly install the wire terminal ends requires the use of a special crimping tool. I don't know what others have used, but the ends are hollow tubes which the special crimping tool uniformly applies force to make a very secure and sound connection. I don't know if the application of heat such as soldering will negatively affect proper engagement of the terminals. These are a premium grade of connector and the use of proper tooling for installation maintains that integrity. Your local dealer should be equipped to handle this, or some auto dealerships and most heavy truch dealerships will also have the proper equipment as well. Hope this helps.
