Advice will be well appreciated.

Bike starts to pink under heavy acceleration when hot. When cooler, there's none of that.

HD dealer informs that it is due to the low grade fuel sold here. I tried about all the gas stations here already and the problem's still there. Summer is around the corner and ambient daytime temps will soon be over 35 deg. C.

I am guessing there has to be way of resolving this.

Anyone help, please ?

I'd try some octane booster to see if that'd stop the pinging under load if you're really concerned about it. You can also play with the timing a bit to minimize the ping. Mine does the same when it's hot, but this is supposedly normal, so I personally don't worry about it as it doesn't happen all the time, just under heavy loading at low RPM.

+1 on what Prowler said.

Mine has done the same when it was hot when I used lower octane gasoline once, so if you only have lower octane gas, I suspect that that's what it is in your case too.

If you use octane booster, be sure that it's fuel injection compatible. There are some boosters that are used in carbureted motors that have an oil base and will clog injectors.

A very small adjustment in the timing might be all you need to run normally.
I would avoid additives and try to get your bike to run on "normal" gas happily.

If you pull your timing cover off. (you have to drill out the rivets) Then remove the two screws and remove the plate you will see your pick up for the ignition timing. Notice the lines on the outside diameter. Take a scale/ruler and scribe a line in the housing that lines up with one of the long marks. Now loosen the two screws a little and retard the timing one and a half marks. (I consider all the marks as one, not just the longer ones). Tighten the two screws and reassemble plates. If you don't want to use new rivets you can tap out the rivet holes with a 10-32 tap and use some screws to hold it on. If you have metric then use a 5mm tap and screws. I think that's the right conversion to metric but check that the tap will start in the hole.

Some octane boosters contain lead, which can damage your O2 sensor, so if you do end up going that route (not recommended) be sure to get one thats sensor safe.

I think most octane boosters contain ethanol which in my experience just makes the situation worse. here's something I picked up on Thumper talk, food for thought.

Most octane boosters are just toluene. You can buy 5 gallons of it for about $12 a gallon. It's 112 octane and close to the same density as pump gas. Mixes fine. The amount in a bottle of octane booster will raise your octane maybe 1/2 an octane point. If you mix it at 20% you should get a little over 95 octane when mixed with 91 pump premium.
Toluene is actually somewhat less toxic than AV gas, but more expensive.

Steam injection and a circuit to modify the O2 sensor output so the computer doesn't add a lot more fuel.

All your kind responses are well appreciated. I will opt for timing adjustment though I'd be hard pressed to find a solid mechanic around these parts !

Prowler, the heat in summer does play havoc on my right leg too. Then again, many think I am a little crazy to ride then. I will have to fit the comfort kit. It is more expensive buying it at the local HD dealer. I am currently searching for one on the net. Shipping costs are high and may not save me much overall.

Thanks Tootal about the retardation advice.

At least I now know that this problem does actually exist.

Yes, Blk_uly I do support breast cancer foundation and have been on the "pink ride" albeit with the local HOG chapter. It was one big happy family in those days.

Thank you all, Ride Safe.
