Tire time, putting in an order for a Cycle Hill machine, and I need new rubber on all 4 bikes. I am thinking of doing MT75's on the Blast, Pilot Power 2CT's on the 1125CR, and either Angels or Trails for the 1125R. My XB has Strada and race tires, but I don't use it much so its low priority on my replacement list.

Anyway, anyone here run both Angels and Trails? Thoughts? Also, where is the current best place to order them from? I usually get them from Rhinotire, but they are slow with getting the latest and greatest tires up on their website, and I rather not pay the price premium for their gel at the moment. (I have it on my Stradas and love it)

I think you should run a set of Parodi Angles. Not to be obtuse, but they might have an acute angle on cornering. I think they would be the right choice. I'm not sure how good they are in a straight line, though.

You probably can't speak, but I see the dentist didn't drill out your sense a humor.

$850 for the Cycle Hill big package plus tons of goodies I don't need, $400 for some boots, $50 on earplugs, plus around $500 for some tires, I just hope my bank doesn't throw a fraud alert. They like doing that at the worst possible times, like coming home from Homecoming "Why would you buy gas 14 times in a 3 day span?".

I think I'm gonna do the Trails, then when the XB hits cords I'll put the Angels on that.

Frogster,
I have Angles on my Uly and like them. The handling is as good as anything I've tried (Syncs, BT-16's) and the wear seems average so far. Not a dirt tire! I don't know what the added power of the 1125 will do to them. My .02$

Whatever you do, don't buy PR3's! I installed a set and 2 weeks later my Uly ate the front connecting rod bearing!

It is a real pisser having a fresh set of tires on my Uly that I can't take out and abuse right now.

You could always spoon them onto your 1125CR. Oh wait... : D

Duh, tell me about it. And install the Uly tail section, seat, bags, bars, and fairing and have the best of both worlds.

Froggy,
I was going to suggest Compacc. That's where I've ordered my last couple of sets from and they always seem to have a great price for a package deal. They also ship to my APO address but I wont have to worry about that in a couple of weeks :-) I'll be heading back to OKC after my retirement from the USAF.

+1 for the scorpions trails.

I bought a set for the uly, but wound up installing them on my hyper.

It is a pretty robust tire and rides as smooth as the street tires I had before. Traction is as good as street tires and a little better when loose sand is on the pavement.

I like the Angels. Put them on last spring and they work well and are wearing normally. The stockers had no sides left and a tall ridge down the center after little more than 5k. The Angels have 5 k on them and look like they'll go another 5. Plus they were about $220 shipped from CompAcc or McySuperStr.

Haven't tried either but I have a set of the scorp trails ordered. motorcycle superstore was having a special. $242 shipped. No longer than tires last figured I would give them a try.

I order a set of the Trails from Motorcycle SS last week but just got the front, even thought the web site said they had the 180 rear in stock it seems they were in stock in outer Mongolia still aren't here and no shipping date yet. Oh well, it's snowing like mad here now and will be a while before I can get out again.

When you put on the Scorpion Trails let us all know about how they fit and any width issue. I have seen pics on another thread about how close the 190 is to the belt and it makes me a bit nervous (perhaps I shouldn't be).

I ordered the 180's. I liked how they felt on the Multistrada I demoed, so that was part of the reason I went with them.

I've had the 190 Trail on my Uly since last fall. No clearance issues at all. Plus my speedo is almost spot on with the taller tire.

What mileage do you have on the Trails now?

Hey Jim,
I'm at 4000 or so on the Trails. They still look great, I'm thinking I'll get 8-10K out of the rear. They work well too.

Not so much dirt as it is gravel, both hard packed and loose. They don't act any differently than the Syncs. I'm not a big fan of the 17" front in the loose stuff. I do like the heavier carcass of the Trails better for the rough stuff. I've seen a rock puncture a Sync, center tread.

My trails came in today. Nice looking tires, wish they were a little more aggressive tread wise but I knew they wouldn't be.

I put on some Scorpion Trails last summer, and really loved them. Got almost 10K out of the front tire.

Yes, I've done some dirt riding with the Scorp's. They are not knobbies, of course, but they have more grip on dirt than I would have expected (pretty big grooves). Of course, on pavement they are fantastic, too.

I finally got to ride the uly with the scorp trails on. Initial impressions: they turn in quick, happily nothing like the syncs. I rode through the yard and can tell the terrain will need to be hard pack or gravel or it'll be taking naps often, much different than the shinko 705s I just took off.

So hopefully they'll wear good and be decent on gravel.

Yjsrule,
Tell us about your experience you had with the Shinko 705's. I have thought about trying those on my Uly however I still ride a lot of highway miles.

705s compared to regular tires.

705s are way better than anything short of a knobby I've tried on a street bike. They howl like mad on the road and I was always afraid to push them much in the curves. They stick OK they just don't give you confidence as they feel a bit vague, similar to a sync for me but I liked the way they turned better. The syncs always felt numb to me, no feel at all.
The rear I just pulled was at the wear bars at just over 3k miles, not too good. Most tires I've run last around 4500 miles, I've never had one go over 5k, hoping the trails will do this.

So, if you ride a lot of gravel/dirt roads and don't mind some compromise on road they are great. It's just a shame they didn't put a 4.5in. wide rear wheel on these bikes because the 150 is pretty narrow.
