no, not torque....Torq!

meet the new addition to the Nelson family!

he's a first generation Yorkiepoo- dad is a Yorkie, mom is a poodle. He'll be a little guy- only about 10 pounds fully grown.

my wife and I got married in October, and have had several setbacks already, including being devastated by a miscarraige. Torq is a bit of fun and positive in our lives, right when we needed it!

...and the best part is, he's small enough to take on the Uly in a kennel for camping trips!

Can you guess where these 2 Buellers got the name from? : )

Nice dog. Remember that a dogs ears are very sensitive. Motorcycling with a dog might ruin their hearing. They do love to go though. Years ago I had a lab mix who lived to hunt and would just love to ride between my brother and I on my Honda 750F. Max would just jump up onto the seat and be raring to go. My brother would take him hunting and if Max got bored he'd just leave and head home on his own. Didn't seem to matter where he was because he'd know exactly how to bee-line it straight home. When he was real old, about 17 or so, I took him in my open top Willy's jeep to a business I needed to visit. Some junk yard dog beat up on him that he went to sniff and I put him back into the jeep. He was upset and when I went into the store he decided it was time to bee-line it home. This was in January, frigid cold, across the Iowa river and at least 5 miles from home. I came out to find Max gone and and I was frantic. I searched for a couple of hours all over the place and finally gave it up and headed home. Max was home in the warm back porch acting like nothing out of the ordinary. Mind you, he had to get across the river and must have found one of the bridges to do that. Max was my smartest dog and best friend for 19 years. Still miss him.

Andy-

Congrats on the dog, he looks like a sweetie, and a ray of sunshine during a difficult time. I went through the same situation with my wife years ago; nothing could have prepared us for that. It gets easier in time, friend. Chin up.

They're a great dog, no hair all over! We've had Noah for 3 years now and all he wants to do is play fetch with his squeaky bunny, for hours and chase anything that ventures into the fence (there's a neighborhood rabbit missing it's cottontail now)! Yorkies are bred rodent chasers and it shows.
When I got back into bikes 4 yrs. ago the deal was I get a bike, wife gets a dog, to keep her company when I ride. I don't think we could've found a better breed. Have fun with him.

Thanks Craig- I thought about the noise level bit....maybe I'll have to engineer some hearing protection for him : )

And thanks for your words as well Mark. We have been doing good, but I agree...NOTHING could have prepared us for it! We had not told our families yet, and were planning on telling them on Christmas, but found out we lost the baby a few days before. Made our first Christmas a tough one (add to that the fact that my older brother left his wife for a boy and brought him to Christmas!). So yeah, in the first 5 months of marriage we've had those 2 things to deal with, both of our incomes basically cut in half, a friend borrowed my truck...then borrowed it to his 16 year old daughter without asking me....who totalled it... it seems the list goes on!

Torq came at a good time. We are not supposed to get below freezing for the foreseeable future, daylight savings is in effect, my wife is past her medical issues from the miscarriage....life is good, in spite of a few temporary circumstances.

We just finished a fantastic message series in church called "Don't Give Up On Me"- a series on Jonah. It was great, and I realized I don't want to learn to count my blessings the hard way as Jonah did! I kind of laughed yesterday as we got to the end of the book and Jonah, who had climbed up on top of a hill to sulk and watch a city get destroyed. When a worm ate at the branch he was under for shade and caused it to wilt this was response:

"He prayed to die: "I'm better off dead!"

Then God said to Jonah, "What right do you have to get angry about this shade tree?"

Jonah said, "Plenty of right. It's made me angry enough to die!"

God said, "What's this? How is it that you can change your feelings from pleasure to anger overnight about a mere shade tree that you did nothing to get? You neither planted nor watered it. It grew up one night and died the next night.

lol, I'm so angry I want to die! : p

We are a blessed people, in spite of some lousy circumstances.

Awesome Ron!

So far, he's not so active. He's been so scared and lonely that he finally took his first steps in our house late last night! He didn't eat until 9:30 last night, and he STILL has not gone to the bathroom!

I hope he gets comfortable soon- there's no shortage of love for him!

Andy,
It does seem you have run into a bout of undesirable experiences. As for lending the truck to a friend, no good deed goes unpunished. Things will eventually look up for you and yours.

Andy, what a cute puppy! I love the name too!

One of my brothers has 9 motorcycles, 3 of which are Ducatis. He named his dog Desmo. ( If you are unfamiliar with the Ducati's valve train, this would not make any sense to you). I might try to post a picture of Desmo when I get home.

Take care Andy, things can only get better, right?

Ronmold, your dog is very cute also! Nice pics.

My new dog says "Woof!" (welcome). We also went through the miscarriage ordeal about 40 years ago. Know the feeling. I have Tinker Belle because of someone else's hard times and I'll give her back to them when they can handle it again. She goes well with the new Wolfman luggage.

Hey Andy,
Sorry to hear of your recent misfortunes. This past winter has been tough, for my wife and I. Plus I have been out of work for a little over a year. It`s all part of God`s plan, and it will all work out. Torq is a cute pup, good luck with him. I`m sure he will warm up to his new home.
Riding is always good for the head. Got out the other day, a little cold, but it was great to get out.

Tinker Belle is a beautiful pup!

Al- I love the name Desmo : )

Torq finally pooped last night, so I feel better for him! : p

I really don't mean to sound like a downer- I truly love life, and things are good. I think Torq is a needed positive for my wife especially.

Life is good- it will be even better later this week when I get to ride : )

I was going to post a pic of "Desmo" but I realized the one and only pic I have of him is on my cell phone, not on my computer. I am too computer illiterate (stupid) to figure out how to transfer it. Oh well.

Who's your carrier? You might be able to uplink it to their site (Verizon has it), or, possibly email it to yourself and go from there off your computer.

Sperz1,

Chillax man.... I don't think that anything that Andy said in any way indicated that he wasn't 'there' when his brother needed him, and for you to assume otherwise and call people names just makes you look like an ass.

No not at all, I love my brother and he has received nothing but love from me. But if you think that his lying to his family, cheating on his wife and then leaving her, and then bringing him to Christmas....all the while STILL lying to his family about it all...if you think all of that has not created a ton of stress on our family, then you're fooling yourself and I would say that you sir are the a**. If, perhaps, you didn't look at it that way because you have not been in my shoes and would like to reconsider your position, then I too shall reconsider mine : )

Andy,

I have an idea of what you went through with the miscarriage. My wife and I experienced one 2 days before Christmas 2009. It was more devastating than I could ever have imagined.

Things have a way of working out, and 2 weeks before this past Christmas my wife gave birth to our son.

Things get better, and I'm sure little Torq will help with that.

Uh oh, here's Harlie, our mini-goldendoodle (1/4 miniature poodle, 1/2 standard poodle, 1/4 golden retriever). She's full-grown at 30lbs and doesn't shed either!

And I SWEAR I didn't pick the name! After going through a huge list, my wife proposed it. It was the only one we could agree on, but I said we had to change the spelling. I told her, "As the owner of a Harley-Davidson, do you realize the amount of crap I am going to get for this?"

One hilarious dog and a ton of fun to have around.

Harlie

Andy, sorry to hear about your troubles. You and Sam are very positive people-you will make great parents.

Yorkie-poos are great. Spirit is 6.5 years old and doing great.

Thanks for all the kind words...I didn't really mean for this thread to be about our troubles : p

I love the dog pictures!

Jon I forgot about Spirit, and I never knew he was a Yorkie-poo! I remember him running around the garage when we picked the bike up : ) Didn't you have another small dog then too?

Yup! Spirit is a Yorkie-Poo, half sister to my Mom's dog (same mom).

Yes, we do have another dog, Scout. He is a dog we adopted from some friends of ours that couldn't give him the attention he deserves/needs. He will be 4 next month so not quite 3 years younger than Spirit. She is most definitely the Princess at our house.

Scout

He has certainly become my best bud. He is 1/2 Cocker Spaniel, 1/4 Poodle and 1/4 Bichon Frise. He doesn't shed until he is very long. But then Spirit doesn't either.
