Well, the last three times I've been out on the Uly, about 20-30 mins in to the ride, I get, well, what the subject line says...miss, pop, bang, chug, lurch, pop, vroom. The order isn't necessarily always firm but the fact that the behavior goes away after 'bout a minute or two is.

It only does it for a brief period and then the bike will run beautifully for the rest of the day. If I stop and let it cool, after restarting, it does it again about 20-30 mins in to the ride, for about a minute or two, like I just hit the bottom of the fuel tank and need to switch over to reserve but I can't seem to find the petcock on the tank . Once the hiccup passes, the bike runs beautifully for the rest of the day, hours on end. Stopping for fuel isn't enough of a stop to recreate the hiccup.

I'm thinking its been a while since my last TPS reset (10-11 months?), my NGKs are only about 5 months old and the only engine mod is a PCV breather box re-route (which did improve my overall performance by not making it do essentially the same thing).

I guess I need to dig out the TPS reset procedures...?

Resist the urge to say "an ECM from Erik Buell Racing will fix that". That's already on the list of must haves this year and the bike does run reliably otherwise.

At the risk of being way off base...

Mine started doing something similar last winter.... I replaced the Intake Manifold Seals and it stopped doing it.

Shhhhh, my intake manifold seals don't know they are bad and I don't want them to know I have spares in the tool box or that I suspect them.

Seriously, I was afraid that would be one of the culprits (thus the spares in the wings) but didn't want to bring that issue up and taint the answer pool.

Thanks for confirming one of my suspicions.

The intake seals might leak when it's cold or hot or all the time but your problem is intermittent. THE WORST KIND! I would say electrical. Ok, I'll say it, ECM! Or BAS or a ground. Hell, even check your battery cables. Make sure they don't move after you tighten the screws. The only other thing that comes to mind would be fuel pump.

I need to go back through my ground checklist (did that about 6 mos ago) just to make sure that everything is still grounded. Because of others travails, I went through them with new washers and dielectric grease about a year ago and then about 6 mos ago just to re-check. Still, I feel like they're worth another check.

It is intermittent, sorta. I can count on it to happen after 20-30 mins of riding, last for about a minute or two and then not again unless I let the bike cool down and then resume riding. Then its lather, rinse, repeat in the most predictable way.

I'll archive search the BAS test/bypass to see if that is it, just to cover that base.

Thankfully, because of this forum, I have been stockpiling bits and parts for the intermittent things that seem to haunt others, like new fuel filter and screen and associated o-rings (for the pump wire inspection), intake seals, spark plug wires, belt, clutch cable, exhaust hanger straps, bearings, etc etc etc.

This bike's just dang lucky I like to wrench almost as much as I like to ride.

Jake I am not going into the long version of what it could be, there are many, but do this first because I had the same problem.

Make sure that the sub-frame battery Earth point IS filed back to metal. Being tight is not enough because of the paint on the surface. Its a Earth resistance problem for the ECM at this point and causes all sorts of engine running problems.

What happens is that your bike can seem sort of ok from new, but never quite right, and gets worse over time.

Working on a post now. Have had the same type of issues and found a lot of things that were not the issue.

Still working on the what is the issue part.

Got tired of lapping valves and washing parts in the parts washer so I went for a ride to see if I could reproduce the hesitation and coughing (and to warm the primary up so that I could adjust it).

Found that the stalling is directly related to the ECM.

The red/white lead that comes off of the top left port on the gray Deutsch connector (the forward big connector on the ECM) must have a break in it somewhere between the connector and where it disappears into the factory harness wrap. If I isolate it and wiggle that wire, poof!, the bike shuts off. Immediately upon doing so, the fuel pump cycles on its own and thumbing the starter cranks it right back up, until I fiddle with that red/white wire again. I'm sure I'm loading up a set of plugs because with each wiggle, a new shot of gas gets pumped and the thing fires right up but the smell is really rich.

R/W Pin1 Grey ECM connector is the 5V SENSOR POWER. It goes/feeds:

Pin4 on the BAS
PinA on the VSS
PinA on the CMP
Pin3 on the TPS
