OK Boys, I am converting my 08 XB12X to a "P" model.

I have purchased a Police Lighting kit from a member here, and the two sub harnesses from my favorite dealer (ouch that was expensive)and now I,m ready for the install.

I'm looking for advice, warnings, and shortcuts/good ideas from people who have actually made this install, or at least read the correct manuals. The hardware is straight forward and the harness routing doesn't seem too weird, but I could use information on the plugging up and splicing the main harness to the sub harnesses I have purchased.
Note: I don't have the right side sub-frame to bolt the siren bracket to, so for now this is a non-siren install. I am looking for the sub frame and I could use the Whelen part number for the siren driver if anybody has done that research.

Thanks.

Nobody has done this? Surely I am not the first. Well, there is a first time for everything, said (Insert Joke Here) the man.

I just bought and installed the kit on my '09 XP. I'm working on the siren driver myself. You can buy the part from H-D for ~$230. You can get it from Whelen directly, just I haven't gotten around to figuring which one goes on the Buells.

The install was easy since my bike already had the kit installed at one time. The only place I saw where the kit connected to the bike's main harness was the power source for the under seat 12v outlet. I'm not very happy with the power button and the pattern to engage the lights. I'm going to get my own momentary switches and make a cleaner install.

thanks Jeepcountry6, I am installing the kit on a regular x model, not the xp. I mocked up pretty straight. I've got the rear lights on my junior trunk and the handguards and switch no issues. I'm having difficulty fitting the fender to the front light bracket, but I will get it(Maybe after using a hair drier to heat the plastic a little). I have stretched the wiring harness out prior to installation, everything looks good..., but I have a blade connector at the front and a two wire connector near the module that I don't know where to put. The two wire connector appears to be power/ground, and I thing the blade connector up front has something to do with the horn. I am not installing the siren right now because I don't have the subframe with the correct mounting tabs. I see the two blade connectors that run off toward the siren and I will secure them out of the way, I assume the other blade connector up front won't be needed either, so my only issue is the two wire connector near the module. Am I missing a plug in or do I connect to the battery red and black ACCORDINGLY?

Any thing you remember would be great and any thing about routing tricks would be great, the instructions I have say I need to remove the shock and air scoop to run the harness, I hope not.

Thanks

Is the two wire connector near the module a red/black? If so, this is the power source. On mine, you unplug the under seat 12v outlet and plug the light kit harness to the outlet feed. Yes, the single wire in the front connects to the horn. The horn operates the siren system. The controls for the Buell system are really goofy compared to a Harley setup IMO. I plan on making my own controls and mounts to operate the siren separate of the horn and to have a better switch for the lights. I can snap some pics tonight and post them for you if that helps.

Thank you for your help. Everything(Except the siren) has been installed and functions properly. The lights look and work great. I will keep looking for the correct subframe to mount the siren or someday I'll have tabs welded on the stock piece.

Thanks for the clarification and keep it rolling. Any ideas for covers on the front Red/Blue lights?

The guys at work, who are volunteer deputes, get some real stretchy socks to pull over their Red and Blue lights. I'm going to give those a go, if not, I'll have to come up with a cover.

I found these black rubber semi cones in the local wal-mart, I think they are some kind of window box, flexible cup, they fit over the lights perfect. Only problem is when they are fitted, it looks like the bike has on a push up bra.
