After finding ourselves a little short on spare keys for the top/side cases for the XT, and not wanting to pay the dealership for "proper" keys, we went to our local locksmith and were able to have these made

key

The key blank was a little "tall" for the lock, but came down to size when they cut it. $6.00 for 2 keys, and we think the locksmith enjoyed the challenge of making it work.

What is the ILCO blank number on that new key? Most keys have a blank number (many houses for instance use a KW1 if they have Kwikset locks) and knowing that designator makes it easier to walk in and speak locksmith language right off the bat rather than "I have this key..."

It looks like it might be in view on the new key on the left in the upper left corner but I can't tell what it says.

I was surprised a few years ago when I went looking for key blanks for an Austin Healey bug-eyed Sprite and another Triumph ignition and found that the blank was more common than I expected, as long as I knew the blank designator.
