I rode to BikeWeek in 2004 and camped at the Daytona 200 campground. I went to the rally but not to the races. I have no interest in the rally now but I'd like to see Buell's racing and am thinking of riding over again this year. Are Buell's racing? What dates? Is motorcycle camping available at the track? Any of you Buellers going to the races? I'd also like to walk the corners to feel the slope. Is that allowed? Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Let's make this the Daytona Bike Week roll call thread if Buellerxt is ok with it. Post dates when everyone will be there as well as other interesting events. I camp every year at the track so I'll be there, have to get the dates ironed out yet though.

I plan on taking the Mulesses down but have no dates yet. I have been told over the phone from DIS personel that infield tent camping is allowed but the pass is $175 for the whole 10 days or whatever it is. This camping pass includes tickets for all the races.

Care to dispell or confirm any of this from your past exploits Blasterd ?

I camp twice a year (bike week and biketoberfest) at the infield area inside the speedway at turn 4, been camping there for so long I consider it my spot! The prices have have steadily increased over the years and that sounds about right for the whole week/event. I used to spend that a night for a hotel but never again. The website is the track website there is a section for camping. You can pay per night if you don't want to stay the whole week and last year it was 10.oo per night during the week or 25.oo the day of a race. I can remember when it was free during the week but those days are over. Your camping pass is also your race ticket so don't loose it or they won't let you back in unless you pay again. The awesome thing is your camping pass also is your ticket to the garage area, I have met most of the Buell racers in the past as well as sat on their bikes, etc....I also met Erik and Court at breakfast the year the XBRR raced. My facebook page has a bunch of pics from last year if anyone is interested.
I should be there either Thursday or Friday and would be happy to camp next to some more Badwebbers, last year I was surrounded by the Norton and Triumph guys.
IF anyone wants my cell or FB let me know....

I truly love riding my Uly to and back from events like Daytona. This year however, I may cheat a little if it is too cold for my feeble old butt. I have now been sick for a little over 7 weeks with a lingering snot tossing illness that has finally been letting up, not unlike the illness I procured on my Daytona trip last year. I don't want to be riding there again like I did last March, when on my ride down and back the temperatures were in the twenties and thirties for most of the trip, and then sleeping in a tent at 38F with twenty mph winds in the infield. All to which my mother said "no wonder you are sick!"

I planned a couple times to ride down.., had camping gear picked out at REI in my cart ready to checkout, Even if I cannot afford to go,.. I would still like to plan it out. I was thinking to take the long way, along the coast from Capemay, NJ to get there and use 95 to get back up quick on return.

I would just show up friday and leave sunday. What would be the cost for tickets plus camp at the track for fri-sat nights??

As Vern found out, we are never fully free from the threat of a frosty morning until after Easter. Once Easter hits, we are good until next December.

I sacrificed my well being for the event. I knew from the previous year's trip down with Wolfridgerider, that the ride would be a cold one. But given that I lived in Florida for seventeen years I cannot plead ignorant to what Florida winters can be like.

What I found was that my heated gear and such are not infallible to a prolonged cold exposure of like four days straight.....well not just my gear.....I should include my feeble antiquated human form. I guess I just need a warm up break every other day or so.

Also as far as the camping went last year, it was just cold enough to run around all day in my gear. That brought on being just sweaty enough to cause a catastrophic chill as the night's temperature dipped to 38F and the wind stayed steady all night, I was in a 50F sleeping bag. Ratbuell and I popped out of our tents a few times to plug our jackets into our bikes for a quick warm up.

As with all of my camping trips.....if I can stay dry I do well. Once I get wet or sweaty as the sun goes down it can become a cold night. Many have suffered that fate at Marchbadness also.

Well, just got a nice, compact 20 degree sleeping bag today. Rant mode: WHO SELLS A FREAKIN SLEEPING BAG WITH NO STUFF SACK???? Rant off...guess I'll have to find a compression bag between now and then. But, need to rack up about 1,000 miles before the trip, so I can do my service and make sure the whole bike is happy before hitting the road : )

XdigitalX, Around this time of year you never know what the weather will be. This is why I plan on hammering I-95 in one or maybe two days if it's really cold. The whole coast thing sounds like fun to me but only when I was sure the weather wouldn't bite me in the arse...I'm at exit 14 myself.

I think I am just going to hammer it out there and back in one day each. It's only a little more than 1000 miles each way. That will save two nights of camping or hoteling wichever you plan on doing. I'm also figuring $200 for fuel for the whole trip. Not sure about the ticket/camping costs but I will call DIS tomorrow and let you know. Worst case scenario it will be $175 for the whole week if they force you to but the whole package. If I can eat and drink for $25 a day that's $500 for the trip plus tolls and incidentals. If I can ebay a few more things I'll have around $700 in my pocket for the trip. How you livin' ??? Large baby large!!!

2000 miles div.by 45 = 44.44 x $144.43 in gas

$50 bucks to get into the show and infield camping is included

$194.43

How much do ya wanna spend on food and hotels is up to you... McD's dollar menu all the way for me

and then there is the beer...

Wolf, I always round up quite a bit. That way I know I'm good. If I have time I will have my friend make me a weeks worth of jerky. That jerky combined with a couple of jars of dry roasted Planters peanuts and I'm good. All I'll have to buy is the Mtn-Dew...

After reading your post about the fuzz on the QB I'm thinking that I might not get molested as I'm not on a drag-piped HD. I really am getting sick of this effin' place!!!

back in my H-D riding days I got busted in WV for a non DOT helmet on my way to some flat track races

They were sitting on the side of exit ramp plucking us out of line... give the helmet a quick look see and pass out the tickets...

wooo hoooo it was fun!

my biggest fear is getting performance awards these days
