With all the fuss we all go through to convert our headlamps to HID, the superior lighting they provide, and the trend in automotive lighting to go HID, I wonder why the Motorcycle OEM's are not going that way with new model bikes. I've been watching the reviews on all the new models coming out and not one comes with HID from the factory. My fist thought would be "cost cutting", but as cheap as you can get high quality units these days, I'm sure that's not it. Particularly with the Adventure Bikes, I would think providing HID as standard would be a no-brainer Any thoughts or insights? A- | ||

Costs. OEM HID kits require self leveling and other systems to prevent blinding oncoming traffic. These are not cheap, even on mass produced automobiles. They would significantly increase the MSRP of any motorcycle equipped, assuming you can design one that still complies with all federal laws regarding lighting. That said, I would love to see it happen. | ||

Also, in Europe at least, any HID light must have a cleaning mechanism such as a mini windshield wiper, or high pressure windshield washer sprayers. That would be a difficult contraption to affix to the front of a bike. | ||
