two other buddies- one on a Strom and one on a Roadliner and I on my Uly are planning a trip up to Barber from Florida's Big Bend and wanted to get the scoop on a good place to stay overnight close to the Museum and of course some most excellent roads to carve up while there. Frome AL we are going to make our way over to north GA to stay with a friend north of Atlanta before heading south back home to North Fl. Anyone aware of the best route and maybe a safety net along the way? ie: (good bike shop Buell friendly and/or help if needed) This is going to be the longest trip I have taken so far on my 09 Uly and with 13000+ miles I just want to be prepared in needed. any other suggestions? cheers! |

I was at the Barber Motorsports park last May, you won't be dissapointed. Probably the best bike display I've ever seen. Can't help with hotels etc as we spent a week with friends who live there. |

Hey Blasterd, If you're going over towards B'ham from Atlanta on I-20, look at the roads in the Talladega Nat'l Forest around Cheaha Mtn. There are some good ones over there as well as a few lodging options. Its a little over an hour away from B'ham. Look on your favorite map site and it will quickly become evident why you should *at the very least* consider a side trip through there. I usually take 231/280 south out of B'ham towards Opelika and down in to Columbus continuing to Albany. Even 280 isn't bad until you begin to close in on Dawson, just north of Albany, and the farm land/flat land creeps back in. From there, you can wander back down to Madison. Years ago, I lived over in Lee, FL near Blue Springs. Used to drive by several of the "fridges of Madison County" roaming around there on a KLR. When you go to Barber, make sure your digital camera's card is dead empty before you go in. (Message edited by 7873jake on January 20, 2011) |

Thanks Jake! I'll take a look at those roads and work them into the route along our way up. I'll be leaving from Lee "close to Blue Springs" along with another friend on his Roadliner and we will making our way over to Wakulla county to meet our other friend. From there we will make our way up to Alabama to Barber. I am looking forward the the bike displays and after that we will hit Norht GA. We have 3-4 days to make the trip so some "detours" to some nice roads will be a must! Btw, we likely crossed paths at some point while riding my DT 250 and you on your KLR around the "fridges of Madison County". I Just moved back there after living in Lake City for the past 15 years. If you come back through let me know..... Thanks 4 the info. |

I took a trip to Barber last May. Plan to send the whole day. +1 on the Talladega National Forest. I even managed to find an old Jeep trail to ride too. I believe there is a new Hampton Inn right next to Barber. We stayed in a Cabin at Talladega Creekside Resort close to the speedway. http://www.talladegacreekside.com/ |

If you go up through Columbus, GA, stop at Ranger Joes and look through all of the stuff they have in the shop. http://www.rangerjoes.com/ |
