My 09 Uly has the factory side bags and mounts. I'd like to put a rear luggage rack on it. Is the factory rack still available or would I be better off with the one from Palmer? I don't plan to install a trunk, just want someplace to strap on a tent, sleeping bag or duffel.

Like this? Here is my Buell packed up like a Mule, headed for a week in Sturgis.

Here is a picture of what was packed. My rain fly blew off my tent and everything was soaked. (Put out to dry.)

Impressive packing job, but there are times when I need the beavertail in the vertical position. Still thinking about a rack.

Anyone here experiment with "T-Bags"?

I was going to get one back in the day when my ironhead had a silly sissybar.

It just occured to me that I have a bike with a sissybar once again : )

These things:

The T-bags are good, but they like to fade. Really pisses off the HD guys when they're "new black" bag turns gray.

I always reminded them to take the bag OFF before the bike's weekly wash/wax/detail.

If you are so inclined, poke around for one of the Buell tripletail backpacks; there may still be one or two out there. I have one and it is AWESOME, on the bike or off. Great padded compartment for a laptop, heavy duty construction, and a ton of room.

Fading doesn't really bother me : )
My Aerostich is pink!

I would be more concerned over build quality and ease of use.
I actually don't need any more cargo capacity beyond the two fat saddlebags.

I have a T-Bag, Texan Deluxe I think, that I put on Loretta's tail.
It's a round bag, like a sleeping bag, pockets on each end.

Joe's right, they fade.
Mine's 7 or 8 years old, that pic is almost 3 years old.
I like faded gear, it shows I didn't JUST go out and buy all this stuff. : )

I have a "SAC" bag that I used on an ElectraGlide standard. It holds a ton of stuff and is waterproof too. It slides over the backrest and rests on the passenger seat or flip it around and set it on the luggage rack. I'm leaning toward the Palmer rack.

That's a good looking bag Zack. I like the Blue Bell picture too!

I lived in Cleburne , TX for two years a long time ago when I was working at the Comanche Peak Power Station.

>>>I always reminded them to take the bag OFF before the bike's weekly wash/wax/detail.

Great.

I washed my Uly for the third time in about 20K miles. Put the airbox cover back on(had it off for the summer), and the chin spoiler(had it off to coat the can). Figure it's good till summer, maybe longer.

I have one and like it. Not as much room as many Tbag's, but good for daily/over nighter's. I sometimes place it down on the triptail with the top toward the rear, and a bunge net over it. Not as high up that way. Cortech make some decent soft bags you may like as well. Not a big and wide as the journey's, and better for everyday hauling. I also have a saddleman barrel/roll bag, that velcro's around the TT nicely.

Buellmeister, Go ahead a get a rack, I'm glad I have one. The factory ones are available, check around. Try this thread, someone might be able to help. Ftbastard probably has some info. I think happytrails and others have racks that fit as well. Going with a hepco&becker(OEM) rack gives you options on their top cases...

The perfect fit tail bag for the Uly tail.
Willie & Max vintage about 1970's. The back side has a 6" tall velcro wrap that holds it to the tail and a couple of lower D-rings with some line to keep it from bouncing up. Just need a seat to match,& I'm good to go.

Itileman,

That thing belongs on a cruiser... Studded luggage on a Buell?

I have this to use as my daily larger tail bag, and like it.

For a small tail bag, I use an older version of the wolfman wolf tail.

On my less studly days, I use the Conti Cargo Tri-bag. It also has a velcro wrap or bungees, is expandable, and can ride flat or in the up position.

The Willie & Max bag was well used on my Lowrider of years gone by.

Buellmeister...the factory rack is more substantial. There is also another rack/luggage upfitter that is talked about a lot on this forum...can't remember name...that makes Buell side and back racks to fit all kinds of luggage. Maybe a Ulie will chime in on that.

I like that conti cargo. I have a KLR bag that is similar, but would like to pick up the conti. I have a bit of a bag fetish, can't really justify spending any more money on them. Plus there are some wolfman duffles/expedition bags I'd like to sink my teeth into...

I've just ordered this stuff from Fehling:
http://www.fehling.de/index.php?content=preise&mar kenid=2&lang=eng
....mainly because I already have Givi hard bags that I haven't used for 10 years sitting in the loft. The Uly certainly gives you lots of luggage options doesn't it? I've also just bought one of the Buell tail bags from American Sport Bike - I think they have a few left.

What are the dimensions of the factory Buell rack?
