I know the last thing we need is another tire thread but hey it's a new year so what the heck.....
I was all set to throw a Distanzia on the front until I went in a local bike shop and they had a d616 on the shelf. I asked the mgr what he wanted for it and he said since it had been there for about a year he would take 50.00 for it and 20.00 to mount/ balance. Now I have a Stinko Raven on the rear and when it went I was going to put a Distanzia on the rear. So if I go with the 616 it will be a mismatch again unless I throw a 616 on the rear.
Thoughts......
Btw, I could get a Conti road attack for the same price

It is up to you as to what you wish to use but here are a few facts.

Mixing make/size/type outside of OEM can cause problems. The Uly, no matter what some may say, handles like a sports bike and needs good rubber.

Have you ridden the 616?

It's all I put on my Uly. I love 'em.

I agree with Rat! I've tried others, but I keep coming back to the 616. Price, wet handling (I commute nearly year-round, dry handling (worked fine at Mid-Ohio and Road America!), and 10-12k rear, 15k (until the funky wear just gets too annoying) on the front is a tough combination to beat on the Uly

I run 616`s and have no problems with them. Great in the rain, stick great dry for me. They do wear a little funny, but a good mileage tire. Never been called a slow rider, but I never considered myself as real fast. I`m just comfortable at my pace, and try to ride smart.

Just to clear things up I put 216 when I meant 616, my oops....
I tested the Uly when it first came out and it had a 616 on it and I never experienced any of the headshake/ swimming issues that a bunch of folks did.
My reasoning for the thread is to get opinions on them regarding the issues. I also would be running the Shinko until it wears out and was concerned with handling issues with thr 616 because the Shinko Ravens wander also. For 50 bucks I might try the 616 but I dunno, I also commute year round in all the Florida thunderstorms so I need them to stick.

The 616 is awesome in wet, sand, and even standing water. And for $50...if you don't want it, buy it and send it to me!

It will handle goofy with a mismatched set. Take it easy, scrub in the new tire carefully like you always do, and by the time it's scrubbed, you'll be used to the handling.

I like them and found they lasted just as long as the Scorp Syncs and a little better in the dirt, now the belt on the other hand,,,,,,

Mixing and matching different tire brands has worked very well for me.

I've ran over a dozen Dunlop D616's on the rear and several Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on the front and really like the combination.

I even used a D616 on my Ducati Multistrada 1200S when I got a flat tire back in Maine on my trip last fall:

Worked great all the way home! I also had no problems with the D616 on the Uly...

I don't know how you guys get that many miles from your rear tires.5K and I'm down to the wear bars.
My riding is mainly goofing off and a 7 mile commute.Spinning on gravel seems to be the problem!
9700 on my front 616 and it's getting that choppy feel like any front tire I've used on other bikes.

yeah I was mainly worried about it on the front, if it's not too bad I may go with a 616 rear when the Shinko Raven wears out instead of the Distanzias.
Thanks!

I did not like the D616 I got about 5,500 miles out mine. Also if you hit the corner a little hot the bike would stand up in the corner bad if you hit the brakes. If your a slow rider in the corners you should be ok. I had a mismatched set one time I will never do it again. My bike handled like s--- with the mismatch tires. I know you should brake before the turn but sometimes theres is something in the road that you would like to miss. Thats my 2 cents worth. You cant beat that price. 08 ULY

Aren't the Shinkos tubed tires? Or is that just the 705? My tire changing guy told me I shouldn't put tubes on the Uly rims. There's a ridge inside for the tubeless tires that knaws away at the tube. Is this correct or is he filling me full of hot air?

Shinko 009 Ravens are tubless sport
touring tires, pretty good ones too in my opinion.

Some of the 705s are bias tube type, some are tubeless radials. I currently have a tubeless radial on the back of my uly and a tube type bias on the front running it tubeless. Funny thing is I have to put air in the rear tire quite a bit but the front is never more than a couple pounds down.

picked up the 616 today for 50 bucks, couldn't pass it up for the price.
I've got 13,000 on the stock Sync and can easily go a grand more before I hit the wear bars, at that time I'll throw it on the front and see what it can do. Shortly after that I'll need a rear too and I'll pop one on there as well to at least say I tried them,if I like them I'll continue....if not I'll move over to the Distanzia.
Thanks for the input guys...
