I had a letter from my local HD dealer, 29th Dec, saying they were closing down on the 21st of Dec. A bit late and typical of my past dealings with them.

I was going to buy a six month old demo bike from them but it run so bad it made my teeth rattle and blur my vision. After trying a three month old XBs, it ran fine, I asked what the problem was. They said it was because the XBs was newer? Which sort of upset me a little. I did not buy a bike from them. The salesman was a pushy A**hole as well.

The next time I went to them was for plugs and a battery both of which were not in stock. Two weeks, a second trip, gets home to find one plug is the wrong size and had to wait another week for the right plug. I know I should have checked.

Like most UK HD dealers they never seemed very keen on promoting the bike. Buells I had seen in showrooms were always covered in dust, never a good range and were always tucked away in the darkest of corners. Un-like the Rods and Glides which always had pride of place with lighting and all such things. Its no surprise to me that they have a less than good rep but its not the fault of the bikes. Bad dealers and people not understanding them for what they are has been the problem.

So whats it like in the US with HD dealers. For the most part we in the UK will have to sort things for ourselves but thats no problem because we have had to do that anyway.

Here in Spain Buells were same issue as in uk, they were sold but no mechanic had the skills and the only one that knew them returned to the US, fortunatelly some people know quite well the bikes and we have learned how to work on them. As for the parts I always order from the US here prices are about 3 times the official price of the US + i get on each item a 20% discount over the official price.

Harled just plain ol' sucks it ! Don't worry they're damn near circling the drain. Soon they will only be an apparel company. Just as well anyhow I won't miss them one bit.

Had to laugh again, but just could not believe it, HD brand stuff for cats and dogs.

I have no problem with that but I would still like my dealer to have the basic parts for my bike in stock.

Mind you I am forever being told that I ask waaaaay to much of todays world.

I'm not going to get on the Harley bashing bandwagon here, but it is pretty pathetic when a MOTORCYCLE DEALER has, at all times, full stock of apparel items in full side runs, knives, flasks, shot glasses, and what=have-you but you have to special order a freak'n brake lever.

I have to say that in the UK its not HD as such but the dealers. There are a couple of dealers, who I use now, who are quite outstanding for parts and advise - Black Bear is one of them. Thank you Nobby, the parts man and runs a 50k Uly, at BB.

I have never tried it with HD but BMW in the UK is a pain for parts. Although they do keep vast stocks of parts if you have to order a part you need to visit the dealer to pay for it first. You can not do/pay for it over the phone.
