2008 BUELL XB12XT with 8k miles. Bike has new tires. motorcycle can be seen at 5900 Park blvd, Pinellas Park. The bike is actually a XB12X that has the heated grips and all of the luggage and windshield that comes standard on the XB12XT.

So it's an XB12X dressed out as an XT and the owner is asking $5900. What do you think the bike is worth in this market? I recently looked at an older Vulcan 900 and the guy was asking $5600. That makes this seems like a pretty good deal to me

I really have no point of reference on this particular bike. I paid $8500 for my '06 Uly that had 850 miles. That was May of '06.

Presented this deal today; I'd offer $5400 to cover the cost of a 2010 rear wheel and a spare belt.

I'd say that's a fair price. I bought a 2006 X this summer in fantastic shape, with a few things like a Drummer SS, race ECM, and heated grips for $4500. I still feel like that was a good deal, and a 2008 for $1400 more would be even better!

I was thinking it would be worth about $5500 or so. I don't want to overpay in this buyer's market but didn't want to insult the guy either.

Did the 08 X's have any quirks I should be aware of?

Gas mileage seemed to be lousy with at least the early bikes- there were several threads here about it. The factory issued several updates to the ECM programming which eventually brought the gas mileage in line with the earlier bikes. As long as the ECM is up-to-date (which should have been done routinely if the bike was ever serviced by a dealer) it should be fine.

Other than that, the only significant issue is rear wheel bearings, which is common to all pre-2010 Ulys.

That is more then he would get on trade ($4735), but less then I would expect to find it on the showroom floor for ($6865).
those prices are from KBB for zip code of Pinellas Park

My bets are there is a payoff involved. It might even have some warranty left on it, but I would think most people would advertise that fact if it were true.

I would recommend changing your description to XB12X instead of XB12XT. That's what it actually is. You have the bags etc. but you still have the stock forks and rear shock so your bike sets higher than an XT. There are a few other differences too, front fender, turning radius, plastic colors etc.

But, that's just my 2 cents worth. It's your bike.

I recently looked at a site that listed Buells of all makes, models and years. The XTs were listed for around $6K at the lowest to around $8K at the highest. The average seemed to be around $6500 with less than 10K miles. I think KBB retail is around $7500. ymmv

Motorbike,

It's not my bike. I'm thinking of going to look at it with the idea of making a purchase. And yeah, the wheels need to be black.

Just FYI...heated grips were standard in '08 on both the XB12X and XB12XT. And both bikes came with a windshield...the XT had a slightly taller windshield than the X. And while the XT came equipped with bags as "standard," plenty of X's left the dealership with the exact same bags. The were always sold as an accessory.

I paid $9500 for my 2008 XB12X with full factory luggage, 23 months of warranty remaining and 414 miles on the clock back in April of 2008.

Best bike I've ever owned.

Zane. The question you are asking is way to subjective. It does not account for service/owner history, bike condition and other needed information.

Saying it was a "sort of" XT but then saying it was a X and with no extra pics or other details would make me walk away from it. One thing that is as true today as it has always been is that you can not gauge the value of a bike unless you have seen it.

Very true Ulyman. I have not seen this bike yet but at that price it does seem to be worth the trip. It's only about 15 miles from where I'm living right now.

Zane, my mistake, please accept my apologies. I guess I read your post too quickly. We are real busy at work and I'm really not supposed to be on the internet but I am hooked on BadWeb and feel the need to check in every so often. Kinda like my co-workers that sneak off for a cigarette several times a day!

I really think you should go look at the bike. What have you got to lose? I love my 2008 XT. Good luck.

Motorbike,

Don't sweat it. After being shot at a couple of times, it takes a lot more than that to get a rise out of me.

The bike isn't far from me but I'm booked solid every night for the next week. If it's still there after the first of the year I may be "force" to have a look see. My big issue is do I want an orphan as my only bike. As a second bike? Yeah no problem. I need a Buell but not so sure if it's my only bike. Parts are only going to get more scarce as time goes by.

Zone, the X has stronger wheels then the XT, and the X wheels only came in silver. Not saying you can't power coat them a different color. But once you get it you wouldn't be worried about the color of the wheels because you will be riding the he11 out of it!

Somewhere in this forum is links to the owners manuals. Check out the 08 manual and look for recommended suspension settings. What he has the suspension set on the bike might make it handle wrong for you. when I got my X the spring preload was set to the softest position, it handled strange until I set the spring knob to what the manual recommended.

Teeps+1

Go look at the bike. Gauge it's condition, and the owner. 8K is little in my book. My 09 wasn't even broken in till 10K+, and really seemed to find a groove at 15K. Gas mileage continued to go up as well.

I Have an XT and love it. Were it to get totaled, and the bike your looking at was available, I'd be Very interested.

The tuber guys still find parts. The aftermarket will continue to step up. At 8K on the clock the bike should still have years and years of service. It's a consideration, but don't let that deter you.

After looking at your profile, I have to say a Uly would be perfect for you! Go Look At It. 80% of anything is trying it : ) It's called perma-grin for a reason!

I rode my Uly to FL for the winter. I'm just up the road a bit in Pasco.

So if you any of you guys want to ride during the week, lemme know!

Zane. 15 miles is close enough.

Do not worry on parts and stuff. Many people still run bikes/cars a 100 years plus with little problems. It just takes a little more effort and/or money but not as much as you might think.

The Uly, on first sight, looks like an ugly top heavy dog. 10 miles, on a sorted one, is the next best thing you will ever have to your first time on a bike. Thats a rare thing today.

Uly_Man,

The bike isn't the issue. Anyone who is honest will admit the XB12 platform is world class. I have a very pro Buell dealership near me (Fletchers HD of Clearwater) so service isn't much of an issue. I'd just hate to be down for 2 or 3 months waiting on parts. Harley's track records is less than sterling in this area.

I'm booked up for the next few night but yeah, I need to check this one out. With gas prices getting ready to go through the roof, I think I can just about pay for the bike with fuel savings. My commute is 66 miles round trip and my Rav4 gets about 25 mpg. I figure upper 40's to low 50's for the XB mileage.

Yeah, I need to go look at this one.

Don't let the parts issue keep you from getting the bike. There will be parts for the next 5-7 years easy. Then, like I said, the aftermarket will pick up the slack. Not to go HD, but people are riding around on shovels and evo's, and are still able to get parts.

My 09 XT only get's high 40's when I'm not carring much beside a tail bag, and maybe the top case. The side bags eat about 2 mpg. I'm 250 in my birthday suit for reference. And carry about 10-15 lbs of tools and miscellaneous gear via agri-tubes at all times.

Zane, sorry to burst your bubble, but I bought that bike on the 30. Picked it up on the 3rd. I paid him $5500.00 for it.
So far seems it was a good deal. Needed alot of clean up but the maintenance records were in the bags so I am happy all work has been done.
I also have a te610 Husqvarna that I may now have for sale. Also a 2008.
I am in Melbourne on the east coast.

Slowride's bike is a killer deal. I have the exact same bike right down to the color and I would never let it go for that price. Well, I might if I found a Hyper Motard, Multistrada or a R1200R for a great price.
