I rented a bike in Scotland in 2005, during my early days of riding, and had an encounter with one of these. It was awesome, but more so because of the setting and the rider. The excerpt from my ride report:

"As I waited for the light to change to allow me back onto the road north to Cawdor Castle, a dull, deep buzzing sound I’d never heard rose from my left. Then a black blur (okay, it wasn’t a blur, but it was definitely a fast moving black motorcycle that didn’t look like any cruiser or sportbike that I’D ever seen) flew past. After a couple of cars, I was able to make the turn behind this mysterious bike. The cages eventually turned off so I could accelerate hard and catch up. The dude was an old-timer, with tall, brown, strap-up boots that went all the way to his knees. He wore black pants and a beat-up black leather bomber jacket straight out of “The Wild One” with some sort of logo painted onto the back. He wore a cannonball helmet and RAF goggles and had a crazy grin on his face (I know that grin). Eventually, a sportbike rider came into our fold. The noise coming out of that old timer’s bike was like hearing Bill Haley coming out of an old jukebox in a railway diner: totally authentic, scratchy, inspiring, nostalgic, and worthy of respect. I thought it might be a Vincent Black Shadow (an early-50s superbike, faster than all others at the time), but as I think back, I’m pretty sure it was a Brough (pronounced “bruff”) Superior – the same early-1930s-era bike that T.E. Lawrence “of Arabia” died on as he took a spirited ride down a country lane in Britain in 1935, and the one that Jay Leno had the guys at Orange County Choppers riff off of. A year later, I met a British diplomat in DC who was selling his 1996 Triumph to a friend of mine. He believed British secret service had Mr. Lawrence killed instead – T.E. had become more Arabian than British in those years. This was another one of those moments where the expense of the trip all became worth it. I just saw an old Scottish coot, wearing classic, tall, brown boots and a long leather coat, buzzing down a country road on a vintage bike, and I got to follow him. He eventually turned off, but I was in his wake – a memory I’ll never forget, and an exhaust sound I’ll never forget either."

A very serious bike and, if you can find one and have LOTS of money, close to owning, of which I dream of, an Indian.

You cant use the dammed things though. Take your eyes of it for 10 seconds and it will be stolen.
