Heard you're getting pelted big time over there Marc. Welcome to my world. Just put the bike away! Ugh. Can you say, studded tires?

I have been in the Swiss alps, Austria, North Spain, Andorra and many other places in deepest winter but England is the only place I can not walk, never mind ride a bike, on the roads. I shame them here. It did not happen 30 years ago.

I rode year round in England from 81 through 84. Don't they clean the roads anymore?

Uly_man, you guys are getting your handed to you right now (like I needed to tell you, right?)

Widespread homelessness throughout Europe over a little white stuff...I wonder what my old digs in Hemel Hempstead look like buried deep.

Johnboy777. The Benz is gas (mechanical fuel injection and a bit like the old 109s, LOL) and in fair condition for its age.

Ourdee. From about 1985 they cut back on clearing the roads and path ways in the UK. It has nothing to do with the weather and all about money. I used to live/work out in the country in the 70s and never got stuck in snow or ice. The nearest town was 15 miles away and I used a bike, Honda CB100N rubbish bike, to go to work. I live in London now and just walking on a path way is asking for a busted limb. Riding a bike is close to suicide and even 4x4s have problems.

Just wrap some nylon rope around the tire...laced in and out of the spokes so you have some traction. Just take it easy and go drive around! Impress your neighbors. We did that before knobbies came out...a long time ago. Bicycles too. Euly

Eulysses. Half the problem we have here is the road/speed humps of which there is one about every 20 foot. You cant see them in the snow and if you hit one you just slid off and crash. I know because I have done it.

A rope around the wheel, in the UK in this day/age, would probably warrant execution by "taxing-to-death" and being banished to Mars. You would get 3 points on your ticket and a fine as well.
