A friend of mine dropped his Uly and damaged the frame puck on one side. He got a replacement but needs to know the best way to remove the old one with out damaging the frame. Anybody have any experience doing this? I thought maybe use a heat gun but you would really have to be careful with the heat and the gas in the frame. Thanks.

A heat gun will cause MUCH less heat than a running engine will.

Heat gun.

Penetrating oil (to help dissolve the adhesive)

Piano wire (to "saw" back and forth between puck and frame).

Patience.

Beverages.

Actually try 'spyder wire' fishing line rather than piano wire. It will flex around the contours without as much collateral damage.

Mono filament will work also, but it does not like too much heat. Just make like it is a really flexible saw blade with enough coming out each side to not only saw with it, but enough to wrap it around something inert like a stick or a wood spoon or some other for handles.

Actually you can use dental floss as a sawing agent it is flexable and tough and will do minimal damage to frame.

Just get your fingernails under it and ripe it off. They're only stuck on with double sided tape. Cleanup with metholated spirits or thinners and stick the new one back on. Piece of cake.

If it were me, I would try soaking the top of the puck with either Goo gone or WD-40 and let seep down behind. It may take some time to dissolve the adhesive, but you won't hack up the finish.

I recently replaced one of mine, I just used a hair dryer and slowly peeled the puck off. Took about 7.4 minutes.

...or...just leave it there.

It's a Uly.

Chicks dig scars.
