so I had the ully at the dealership for the rocker boxes leaking causing my fan to short out and they are telling me the battery is weak/dead on the bike, I just replaced the battery 5 days ago with an after market one, does this sound like a battery issue or something else? I would not expect the battery to be bad after 5 days. The guy at the shop didn't want to put the battery on a trickle charge but said they would jump the bike, any idea why?

Sounds like the tech has a "if it ain't a factory battery it is no good" syndrome. You could take it back to where you got it to have it charged and tested. If he is not willing to charge it to try to make it start, he sure falls short in my favorite technicians list, especially considering that he is likely the reason it is currently dead. Don't let him sell you a factory battery unless you can return the after market one, even then try not to do it.

My dealing with the factory batteries has not been good. The SM tells you it needs to be at a minimum of 12.6V to even test any of the electricals on a Buell. Mine never was above 12.4 even after a fresh charge. I finally got an AGM from O'Reilly's and it was at 12.7 off the shelf. It has been in there three years now and is much better than the factory one when it was new.

HD state a OEM battery as 100% charged at 12.7v. I know because I bought a new one with the paperwork that stated as such. Anything less then its not holding the right charge and a XB needs all its charge.

Well, I let the bike sit for 24hrs and tried to start it, the bike fired up with no issue. I let it sit for another 24hrs and it fired right up again. The bike always stutters once before starting but it has done that from almost the day I got it. The last time the dealership said the battery was weak it lasted 4 more months. Maybe this is just the motivation I need to get off my butt and install a voltmeter.

Ryat79 - Mine does the same and always has. Even with a brand new OEM fully charged battery its not all that happy. I have also checked Earth points. Once the bike fires up it should be fine on the next turn over. If not then there is a problem.

The problem, I think, is the high compression heads, an old V-Twin engine and battery CCA margins. I think it is just the nature of the beast and have had it on other V-Twins before. It does not take much to run the battery down, that chatter sound, to the point it will not turn over either.

One of the great things about the Uly is the under-seat space and the battery position. Under-seat space because its easy to carry a bike grade set of jump leads and the battery position because its very easy to remove/jump/charge the battery if needed. Ok its not a perfect bike but try doing any of that on a, said - close to be - perfect, BMW 1100RT.
