Gotta' good one here that I'd love to hear thoughts on...

Had an issue with my 06 Uly (24k miles, mostly stock) cutting out while doing the weave for an ERC Inst. course, so I dropped it at the dealer (warranty). Found a couple of questionable wires in the handlebar controls, fixed and back on the road to my garage. Sat till Monday, when I rode it to work. Rush hour, construction, ZERO runoff space until I got past the barrier and down the muddy slope (yep, ended up on its side when the stand sunk in). Complete power drop. Would idle with clutch pulled, any throttle just bogged and died. No fuel light, no CEL, but my favorite tech from the dealer showed up with a gas can (in case...) and helped me get the bike back up and running. Gas wasn't the issue, but it acted normal and got me to work.

Started that night to go home, did the same crap on the way home- this time on empty (2am) secondary road. shut down, restarted, made it home. Rode back to dealer next morning- no probs. Diagnostic shows virtually EVERY CEL code avail in memory!!! WTF???

Any thoughts from the experts (and maybe not so expert)here on BadWeb?

Thanks!
-Mike

Bank Angle Sensor
Coil/plug wires

No expert, but similar symptoms to the only 2 problems I've ever had with my 09 XT.

Here is the similar sounding problem I am currently dealing with on my 06 (83k mi).
Intermittently, when thoroughly warmed up, in 70+ ambient temps, usually 60mph or less, the engine dies. It is often prefaced with a couple of hiccups a few seconds to a minute before failure. Sometimes the instruments die, sometimes not. Sometimes it backfires LOUDLY through the exhaust, like it lost its timing reference, sometimes not. Sometimes the CEL comes on, sometimes not. Usually regain power by cycling the kill switch. Problem is usually temporarily gone, but returns in a few seconds to a minute. A couple of times I let it die and coasted to the shoulder, cycled the key, and continued.
When checking the codes I find that IAT, TPS and BAS all show high voltage or shorted high. Curiously, the CMP hasn't shown up even though it shares the same VREF and Sensor Ground circuit as the other sensors. I believe the CMP is likely causing the backfiring.
I think what's happening is the sensor ground circuit is going open, most likely in the ECM. That would cause all the signals to go high.
I have inspected the ECM for cracks/hard contact with the seat as noted on other posts- don't see anything.
I disabled BAS and unplugged it- still occurs.
I think my next diagnostic step is to use a couple of Radio Shack LED's to monitor VREF and Sensor Ground at the BAS plug. I expect to see the ground side go open.
I'm not sure how similar our problems are, but if you get a resolution to yours please post! I will do likewise.

Mine was doing similar and I replaced all kinds of stuff but what fixed it was a new/used ECM. Runs better than ever, and NO PINGING OR SKIP-SPARK! Admittedly my '06 has some mileage on it @ 75K but it's been giving me trouble for 20K and pinging since Day One.

Check your grounds where the battery tray bolts to the left frame rail, don't just wiggle them, unbolt them and clean it up. Better yet pull the tray and grind away the powder coat on the mounting points and clean everything up. I even ran a 10awg jumper wire from the front screw to the back to make sure the path was clean.

AL @ American Sport Bike helped me out big time with this, both with advice and the ECM. My original ECM apparently had a heat-revealed cracked trace within, but first make sure your ECM is grounding properly.

Do what Xbimmer has said before doing anything else.

The face of the loom post, on the rear sub-frame, has paint on it and causes bad electrical resistance to the ECM and other parts. The bolt may be tight but thats not enough and the post face MUST BE filed back to metal. It is a well known problem by HD and is in there Tech list as a problem.

I had all sorts of problems, for two years, including timing issues and then the bike totally died on me. After 20 mins of work the bike ran perfect and still does. Less vibs, easier starting, perfect idle, no rev hang, better MPG, more power, no pops/backfires and no flat spots at all in any part of the rev range. Its Buell build issue.

You may have other problems but do this first. Its free as well.

Thanks all for the input- I'll let you know when I have further info...

As for the grounds, that part was done (by me) shortly after I got the bike. Free mod read about here, I figured it could only help in the long run. Sanded and starwashered, re-checked regularly...
