As some on the board know, I tend to OVERLOAD my Uly. One thing that has caused me some problems is the way I use the Triple Tail as a platform for my "top box." It's too ugly out to ride, so farkling is in prime season. Went to the scrap yard and found this 1/4" thick, 12 inch wide aluminum sign for $6.00.  The back side was unpainted. A little measuring and then some cutting with tileman tools.  And when it was all over, the plate attatches to the tail via bolts through the existing holes in said tail. I have Pelican 1400 bought used off ebay coming that will attatch to the plate (pix to follow then).   I can also use this platform to add a Rotopax for additional fuel. | ||

I am curious, does the 11 lbs weight rating still apply? Not sure if the rating is because of the hinge or the fact that the tail is not a solid surface. I was going to do this but stopped mid stream. I really did not want to break the tail or see the contents of my top case all over the road as it broke off and fell apart as hitting the pavement at speed might induce. | ||

I've always carried more than 11 pounds, but keep it under 20. The problems came from the end of the tail flexing on the bumps and shifting what's on top of it. Was concerned about the "air flap", so I made a larger one for more loft.  | ||

I was with ya till we started talking about an airflap. What would that be? Maybe a little more precisely and with a dumbed down version. Much Appreciated. D | ||

Air flap = joke for a device to enhance wheelies. Bike is not ridden with the tail up and the rack on. Might work as sort of an air brake though. Have to give that some thought.  |
