How many of you had the standard seat and then switched to the high seat and have found the heat under the seat to be less, shall we say, invasive on your bum (ass, buttocks, etc). I purchased the heat shroud but haven't installed it yet. I also have the tall seat but it has become colder and don't have that much riding time on the new seat to give a definitive conclusion. What say you.

Hey Tank,
I have a 08 XT with the tall seat and can't say that I have any heat issues with it. My original 08 stock seat was only on the bike about 2 months and I did feel some heat. You should have a bit less heat with the tall seat. Also I'm using the full Special Ops heat blanket which reduces heat even more. If heat is a concern then go with the Special Ops option and tall seat combination. YMMV

I have an '09 XT and put 8000 miles on it with the stock low seat before getting an '06 tall seat. There's a huge difference in the amount of heat you feel. I've had the comfort kit installed since the bike was new but like you, never installed the heat shroud.

I've also used a beaded seat cover on the stock seat. Comparatively, I'd say the seat cover reduces 95+% of the heat. The tall seat eliminates probably 80% or more. I've been comfortable for the 500 or so miles I've put on the bike with it. Those miles were all in temps in the 80's so I haven't tested it yet in really brutal temps.

FYI, if you try a beaded seat cover you might want to keep an eye on the condition of the beads. Mine never caused any problems, but it looked like if the urethane coating ever got too thin on the beads they might start to splinter and destroy the seat. I used a $10 automotive seat cover from wal-mart and just trimmed it to fit.

I went from the tall to the low. I never complained about the heat until I went to the low seat. There is a significant difference.

2 inches of foam rubber has a pretty high "R" value.

I am actually contemplating installing a heating element in mine. After driving with heated leather...there is no going back. Unfortunately my TT got repo'd. That said... I know there will be many time my bum will wish for heat this winter. (below 30 degs)

Odie from Special Ops has some great heat blankets that he makes for the Ulley. They do the trick!
