Anybody know a good place to look for the junior bags that will fit my stock Uly racks... need a narrower option to the stockers...

You can get them here.

I've never dealt with them. Perhaps others on here have. I know the Guzzi bags are the same as the junior (which are the outdoorsman bags on the Buell)so you could try guzzi dealerships too. Do you have the outdoorsman bag mounts or the journey type bag mounts? I have the outdoorsman bags on their mounts. They are great bags but a bit small. I am considering going with the larger versions of these some day, or perhaps the gobis. I see you live near Orlando. I'm in Ocoee. If you would like to stop by you can take a look at my outdoorsman bags. Let me know.

I have the journey mounts.

I will definitely take you up on that offer, I work in Orlando and live north of Clermont, so Ocoee is on my way home up the T-pike

I've tried fitting junior bags to my uly and unless you you weld some new hooks to the back of the brackets they'll be facing the wrong way (hepco becker usually have the buckle at the back)

Shark... got the PM, will figure out a good time soon.

I suspected that the latches might be an issue, I thought I saw them in the back in a pic.

Guess we'll see if they even fit... I wouldn't care if they were backwards as long as they would attach.

They will also be angled the wrong direction. The stock Uly bags (not Outdoorsman) are not compatible with any other directional H&B bag.

Yeah, the latches that hold my bags on, are on the rear of the bag. You can still take a look to get an idea what they are like in case you decide you want to try and find new mounts and bags. I think they are great bags. I haven't had any problems with the latches and they are waterproof.

The mounts are IDENTICAL from one HB bag to another.

I have personally swapped Journey and Outdoorsman bags from bike to bike, and they fit up just fine to the rack. Turn signal and footpeg clearance is another story...

Do a search on here, you'll find plenty of information. And for what its worth, I get my HB stuff from Chris at eurotechmotorsports.com.

Gobi's fit the Journey racks. Only left is right/right is left unless you want to weld new mounting brackets. Would only be needed if you want to use the water spigot set up.

I'm considering getting either a set of Gobi's this winter, or some aluminum panniers with a Happy Trails mounting kit. I have the stock Uly journey side racks. Where's a good place to shop for the Gobi's? Is there certain models that will fit my racks(as mentioned above), certain models that don't? A web site that breaks down all the options would be nice to know...... thanks.

Is the stock Buell side racks the same as the Uly journey side racks.

This isn't entirely correct.

The HOOPS are the same from bag to bag, but H&B bags are designed to mount TO the hoops in the rear. The stock Uly bags mount to the hoop IN THE FRONT. As long as the bags are not DIRECTIONAL, you can swap from one H&B to another. The JUNIOR bags are DIRECTIONAL.

The Outdoorsman bags are also DIRECTIONAL:

If you START with the standard or Outdoorsman racks, you can use the stock Uly bags on those hoops, but you CAN'T go the other way around.

Used Gobi's show up on Advrider once in a while. Prices are in the $400 + shipping range. If I can find some black ones, I'll be selling the gray cases. I was about to buy aluminum cases, but these showed up about the time I was going to order. Can't say enough good things about the Gobi's.

So I get the impression that the Gobi's are only the one size and shape. Is that correct? How many liters are they? I want big-ins. Thanks Brian. Sent you a PM.

I'm on AOL - you might be better off with snail mail.

Gobi's = 37L. If you want huge, the Pelican 1440's are about 42L and maybe more. I had them on for a bit, but the size and aerodynamics caused handling problems at speed in the wind. About $300 new with Happy Trail mounts.

I have the Hepco & Becker Aluminum Xplorer bags and top case on my 08X It came with the outdoorsman Racks and bags. They aren't directional so I assume you could use either rack if you have clearance.

Wow Rich, that's some serious luggage hardware you have there. Nice. So you're thinking the Xplorer bags would probably fit on either the Outdoorsman HB rack OR the Journey HB rack?? I have the Journey HB side racks. I was talking to Roger at Cariboucases.com and he said their cases would not work with the Journey HB side racks due to special things Buell had HB do to the OEM racks.

I was not involved in this topic till I reread it, and now I am totally confused. Who would think that 2 stock options, and a bunch of aftermarket options would have some clarity to them, but I guess not.

I was under the impression that the stock bags on the XT were the Juniors, or you could order the Outdoorsman and swap them out with the dealer. The racks were different, but if you had the outdoorsman racks, you could put the juniors on but they had to go on opposite sides, which would place them backwards on the bike. The outdoorsman bags however would not fit on the Junior (Stock) racks.

I have an xb12 x, and I wanted to get the Outdoorsman sides and top case, as my bike does not have anything right now including the racks. I have been trying to research this issue but keep coming back to the price issue and where to get the parts.

I have learned that the price for either kit is close to $1000.00 for racks, sidecases and topcase.

I have also read that you can no longer get these from HD, and that you may not be able to get them from Hepco & Becker. Is there anyone here that can explain this to me in idiot language. I just can not seem to catch on to this issue in my small brain. That and the fact that there are so many posts on this that it really is confusing.

Thanks in advance

Druelly
Okay, I guess part of my problem is I am confusing the Junior with the word Journey (don't ask) so maybe someone could go on from there.

Read FT's post above. He also has/had a full set of Journey's for sale with racks for cheap.

The original Uly luggage and the luggage on the XB12XT is the Journey luggage. They are made by Hepco & Becker and the racks to mount them were made so the bags latch on to the bike on the front end. The optional luggage for the 08 and above XB12X was called "Outdoorsman" luggage. These are actually Hepco & Becker Junior bags and the rack for those has the receiver for the latch on the back end.

The journey bags are symmetrical, like both the Gobi and Xplorer so they can be mounted in either direction latching to the rack on the front or back. So either rack will work other than turn signal clearance.

The Juniors, or Outdoorsmen, cases can only be mounted in one direction and have to latch in the back so they will not mount on the Buell Journey racks. They will fit but they would be on backwards and look goofy.

I have seen here a few times people say the racks are available but if they are the dealers aren't listing them in inventory because my dealer did a dealer search and non showed up on HD Net anywhere. I have also never seen any racks for the Buell Ulysses listed on any Hepco & Becker website.

I would think cutting the latch mount off the rack and welding it to the opposite side would be fairly simple so if you can find either one you could change them but accurate measurements and strong welds would be a must.}

I looked at the Cariboucase website and it looks like the same issue. Their cases that are made for Hepco Becker Racks are not symmetrical and the latch is on the rear so the original Uly Journey Racks would have the same issue of the latch in the front, but again, I see no reason a small plate couldn't be welded to the rear of the rack for the case latch.

I think Caribou is talking about a direct no mod fit. The structure and overall shape of the rack itself is the same as all Hepco & Becker Racks. The only difference is the latch point.

Ok, a different question. Will the Outdoorsman top box fit on the Journey top box rack?

I dropped by and visited with Sharkguy on my way home from work this evening... we tried his junior bags on my journey racks... The turn signals were a slight issue, but could be easily relocated to the rear 1.5" or so and would remedy that situation.

Other than that issue, the bags fit my racks fine, albeit reversed, and didn't really look that bad... we observed that it would give a little extra room for a passengers legs as well.

Knowing this, I won't hesitate to purchase a set for use on my bike if I find a smokin' deal.

Sorry, no pics, it was dark out and I didn't have my camera with me, and the phone won't do low light photo's.

It was good meeting you Blugorilla. We'll have to go for a ride soon. Those bags didn't look half bad on the Journey racks. I was surprised.
