Hi. How are you all. 06 Uly with 20k miles.

I have run my Uly for about 3 years now and it has had a few problems. All of which have been due to the build quality of the bike. These have been easy to fix though so that has not been a problem.

After reading some of the sites around the world and the doom, gloom and the so called "black art" of Buell XB ownership I have to say that it is, more or less, rubbish.

I do all my own work on the Uly - belts, bearings, electrics/ECM stuff, etc, etc and I have to say it is a very easy bike to work on. In fact more so than any bike I have ever had.

My bike has little vibs, no flat spots, burns no oil, 55 mpg, goes like a train to 130mph, 7k miles on Mitch 2CT rubber and goes round bends like its on rails. Its also, in the UK, dirt cheap to insure.

I think, and I have had many bikes over the past 30 years, that the Uly is close to being the best "all round" road bike ever made. The GS is better for "all out" off-road stuff though, due to its design, but the Uly will piss on it "day and night" at everything else and cost 50% less to buy.

A very good bike, in my opinion, and well known as one of Eriks best bikes.

My 06 has 28k miles. Only issue I've had is the dreaded Skip\Spark.The fan over ride switch seems to have cured that. I love the bike.

Who do you think you are to come on here in your first post and complain that you have nothing to complain about! That's just crazy!

Great way to introduce your self, welcome to the addiction that has taken over my life!

Uly's Rule!

I'd almost be inclined to believe that his post was spam seeing that his post count is ONE. I mean, who gushes like that straight away?

Buuuut, since I just came in from the garage after doing several hours worth of PM and general therapeutic tinkering on the Uly (higher ROI than messing with the old Bonnie), I totally get the message.

Nice Post Uly_Man,

I had an 06, rode it for almost 30K miles, then got a 10 model before they vanished.

Both bikes have been excellent. Problems have been small and easy to fix. The 2010 model has 8K miles now and I have had 0 issues with it.

I do my own maintenance and keep a close eye on things that are vibrating/rubbing.

The total cost of ownership on both of my XB12X bikes has been extremely low with tires being the highest routine cost.

I am going to try the new Pirelli Trails tires to try and get some more miles on the next set.

The XBs are some of the best ever built in my experience.

I will ditto that...
Myself having owned over 30 bikes in 40+ years of riding, I have to say the statement is right on.
As Erik "the man" Buell says; "the Ulysses IS the Swiss Army Knife of the motorcycle world."

I have to agree with you Uly_man. It's the best, most fun bike I've ever had.

The Uly is not a perfect bike...but it is perfect for me!

Economical (to own and maintain), great handling (in the twisties), very comfortable (for long rides), and tons of character!!!!

I am sorry if my first post was not to complain about the bike. I did not want to start posting on a "downer" for the bike.

The bike does have its problems. It has taken me two years of "tinkering" and learning about the bike to sort them out. I have been keeping a log, about this if anyone wants a copy, on PDF.

I do understand that some have had more problems than others but that can be the case with anything.

After 20k I, like many others, have some insight about the bike. All of which I am happy to share with anyone if it can be of help.

Etennuly - I never said I had any right to complain about anything.

7873jake - Its not spam. Its a very, very cynical assessment of the bike. I have no time for rubbish bikes anymore.

The idea of my post was to show that even the poor HD QA of the bike and some bad Buell dealers should not put people off what is a very good bike with a bit of work.

I think a Buell is the last of the "Bikers Bikes". A good base machine but, with a little work, can be so much better.

I have had lots of good bikes but find that the only one I would want to buy again is the Uly.

I believe the Uly to be one of those "made-to-fit-a-market-parts-bin-bikes" that has worked. More by luck than judgement I would say.

I was joking about it being spam and understood where you were coming from the moment I read the post. It held even more impact after having spent several hours with mine in the garage, fluids changed and simple PM work done, at a very slow rate of speed, purposely enjoying the process and my time there with the bike.

You were preachin' to the choir, rev!

7873jake - Now thats what I call a serious motorcyclist.

Many people miss out on some of the best parts of ownership and thats a shame because it can be very rewarding.

A Buell is not like any other bike and needs a sort of bike/rider bonding to get the best from it. Yes I know what some may say, and I would have in the past, but I cant go back now.

The bike has had a very strange effect on me. I go for a ride, with no place to go, just to enjoy the ride.

Makes me laugh every time I ride it.
