Ok, I was out for a ride yesterday morning and had the electric vest going as well as the heated grips. Hard to believe it's that cold already in FL, but it was early yesterday morning. Anyway, I got to thinking, at what rpm does the generator kick in? Is it the same at idle as at say 4000rpm? The battery light didn't come on, so I assume it's putting out enough juice even at idle. Does anyone know? Thanks. Larry |

My dashboard LCD voltmeter shows mid-to-upper 13 volts when I'm at idle (typically 13.6-13.9). At cruising speed, I see it run consistently at 14.1-14.3 volts. I see the 13.6 at idle when I haven't kept the bike on the battery tender. If I keep the bike on the tender, it idles around 13.9 volts. Empirical observation only but its the only one I've noticed thus far. If I turn on the PIAA 510's or grip warmers when I'm running, I will see it drop from 14+ volts to around 13.7-14.0 volts. My Sirius cig charger/adapter doesn't register much at all when I power it on. I'm on an '07 with 10,000+ miles on the original VR/stator and a one year old Interstate battery that replaced the OEM, if that makes any difference. Oh, and I live up here in Deland where altitude is more of a factor than it is in Ocoee. (Message edited by 7873jake on November 08, 2010) |

1rpm.

Nope. As you increase RPM, the stator will produce more power.

If you find the battery light, let me know

At idle the bike isn't making much power, its probably enough to keep the bike running without draining the battery, but thats about it. When you are moving you will be good to go. Also, the OEM heated grips are on a ECM switched accessory line, if your power drops too much, it will turn them off for you. |

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I thought. My bad on the battery light Froggy... I don't know why but I thought there was one. Yeah, I gotta get me one of those volt meters that light up. 7873jake, you guys have any problems with nose bleeds at those altitudes over there |
