I tried searching to no avail, and I know it's been discussed before... Halfway through a 3500 mile + trip, I noticed a smell of oil. Didn't see anything and oil level was fine, so off I went. On my way home, I noticed oil seepage on top of the engine casings, under the area of the starter. I'm kicking myself because I had the same problem before, took it to the shop and told them to fix it, since it was still under warranty. I'm thinking all they did was replace the gasket for the starter. Is there somewhere else this seeping could be coming from? Checking the oil level on the dipstick, it doesn't look as if I've had any excessive oil loss. Thanks -darrell | ||

I've had that "feature" for a while on my 06. No noticable level drop, but always a wet spot...and if I'm really cranking on it (like WVBR or Buelltoberfest) I can see some running down onto the muffler just in front of the tensioner pulley. IIRC there's a vent line for the primary in that area....I may consider extending mine to the tail section to see if it helps any. But again...no noticable loss on either level on my bike, so it's not too far up "the list" LOL | ||

Mine has the same issue, I traced it down to the vent fitting. It was installed with no thread sealer and the oil was weeping from the threads. It is very tough to reach but can be done with patience. | ||

Hm. What is this "patience" you speak of...is it a Craftsman product? Or should I get in touch with the SnapOn guy?  | ||

More like about a 15 degree swing of the wrench remove flip over and repeat and repeat and so on..... | ||

aha. I'll have to check clearances, but my favorite tools in the garage are my GearWrench ratcheting box ends. I think they have like a 5 or 10 degree ratchet, but the box end is a little thicker in OD than a standard box end. Best part is, I haven't broken one yet and I've been using them for six or seven years now! |
