Other than dropping the fuel pump, is there another way to drain the fuel tank? I need to start the fuel pump inspection process in the next week or so and wanted to check this out.

Should be what looks like a big bolt - it's a drain plug.

You are doing this with a manual, right?

Drain it from that plug OUTSIDE! It comes out fast and even with a good funnel strapped in place and drain pan it can get away from you.

I am going to do it from the manual and with the help of two write-ups in the archives. True to form, as my fallow mind wanders while it is away from the manual, I couldn't recall if there was a proper drain plug or not. I sometimes think I should just travel with a copy of the damn FSM in my luggage. Better yet, when will the Buell library be available on CD/DVD? All of my Triumph stuff is.

Thanks for the "outside" warning. I'll do it in a weedy corner of the yard so that any spillage can help with post-emergent and pre-emergent weed control.

Remove the passenger peg, loosen the plug, wedge the funnel between the frame and swingarm (with a screen in it in case you drop the plug), with funnel in gas container, loosen the plug and control the flow with the plug. As it slows remove it. Wear safety goggles! Done it a few times post race tech : )

Best to ride it until it is really low before doing the procedure.
