If someone that works at a dealership could check a VIN for me for the windshield mounting recall listed in the X/XT New owners section on the main B,B&D page, I would appreciate it, thanks in advance.

I'm buying it used, or I'd have the dealer check it for me.

Please PM me.

Thanks Toona

The shield should be mounted with screws through shims/metal tubes in the lower holes and secured on the back side with a lock nut. If it's mounted with only the rubber pieces, the upgrade was not done. Easy fix to do yourself for under $2.00.

Dan, I mounted mine using fender washers and nylocks,I wouldn't bother with dealer fix. Besides, you'll probably end up with Palmer brackets or Madstad!

Thanks for the info, if it's as simple as a sleeve, fender washers and a couple nylock nuts, I'll just fix it myself.

Thanks!

It is that simple...ish.

The top ones don't have a lot of room for nuts when the flyscreen is on the bike, the instrument cluster support aluminum is close. For me, a grinder on the correct angle worked out...but you probably have a LOT more finesse than I do LOL

It can be as simple as you describe if you've got a good hardware aisle at your local supplier. I only have 3/5ths of a good aisle if I combine the 5 hardware stores near me here.

If after a moment or two of trying to put it all together with nuts, bolts, sleeves, etc, and it begins to be more of a challenge than it seems its worth, Al at American Sport Bike used to carry the kit (replete with Buell part #s on them) BUT...if I recall, I had to ask them if they had them when I was placing an order for other stuff--they weren't on the website.

I want to say that they were not a painfully expensive part but I don't recall the price.

I'd be surprised if I don't have all the necessary nuts/bolts at my fab shop already. If not, the hardware store that sells nuts and bolts by the pound will have them. It's only a mile or 2 away.

You know, I was thinking about it, you can disregard my post above. I actually "overkilled" my bike when I had the tall shield on, and put the bolt kit at the top and at the bottom. The update is only for the bottom, no bolt/nut/gauge interference with the stock (correct) setup.
