Bike: 2009 Uly XT bought Oct. 24 2009

Miles: 18,300

Overall impression: This bike is just awesome. It has lived up to all my expectations, and has never failed to deliver.

I bought the Uly after getting out of the hospital, after totaling my 2001 X1. My other bike is a 1999 KLR 650. The X1 was a hot rod, the KLR a great dual sport I'd ridden to Minnesota a couple of times. The Uly XT has been the best of both worlds. I went for the XT for two reasons: One, my 30" inch inseam fits the XT better. And two, I got a demo model with 28 miles on it for $7450.00.

Problems/Issues: There have been zero major problems, and no break downs. The problems have all been minor.

I dealt with some fouled plugs early on, and learned quickly not to blip the throttle and allow the bike to warm up. Had the same issues with the engine stumbling, but that was solved by allowing the engine to warm up as well. I also did a TPS reset which helped a lot. So far I have not had the skip/spark problem some have had. The few skip/spark instances happened with less than 5000 miles on the bike, and not since.

I have not had problems so far with bearings, muffler straps, brake pulsing, belts, etc. But My bearings were a little stiff last tire change, and will be checking them closely next time around.

At first I was disappointed at the fuel mileage, but it has gone up, and is now about what I expected (45mpg). The bike has gotten better in all areas as more miles have been put on. Stronger, faster, better! A little more top end would be nice, but not necessary! One year, two or is it three tickets, and a "few" warnings!

Trips. Been on a bunch. Been to Minnesota, SoDak, and Kansas multiple times. Up and down the state, and over to Memphis. Hot weather, cold, rain, the bike takes it all in stride. Camping, and on dirt roads, just fine : ) The bike is comfortable, and iron but ready. Some propad / sheep skin would be nice though. Lingering issues from my wreck hurt more than anything.

The bike does run hot, and comfort kit helps a bunch. With winter coming, taking the shroud off is temping. I have been running with out the airbox cover on, as it helped keep the bike cool and allowed plenty of air in. Not sure if I'm going to put it back on, as it also allows warm air to blow on my midsection.

The only thing preventing me from putting more miles on is my wallet. I love this bike, and am very happy and grateful to have gotten it. With all the issues many have had, so far, this Uly has been rock solid. Have no fear of going across town, or across country.

Way to go Team Elves!

+1 on the XT. I'll have had mine for two years come Thanksgiving. Haven't been able to run the miles you have, but, at 15k+ it just keeps getting better. Only issues were a bad coil at 7k and I had some problems with the bank angle sensor - both replaced under warranty.
The coil left me stranded, but the MOCO made things right for my troubles.
Did the black bearings at 9.5k as a preventative measure. The orange ones were a little scratchy, but still good. Also did the XB9 gear change (+ a bunch on that).
Hours on the bike don't translate into a bunch of miles as I ride off the tarvy a lot and 150 miles can be a very long day.
Comfort kit, re-flash, 1" risers and Gobi cases took care of most of my needs. New belt went on last week.
It's a keeper.
