American Sport Bike has wonderful mufflers... if you are looking for something that has 'racing' specs. However, I bought the Uly because of the engineering uniquness, to include the muffler as a bash plate. Ebay had nothing, and even craigs list was a bust. Any one have a line on a fresh stock muffler? |

I've got a stocker sitting in the garage. Low mileage (probably about 2K) don't know if all the bolts and clamps are there anymore. Give it to you for $150.00 plus half the shipping from Colorado. Shoot me an email jeffruggles1@comcast.net if you're interested. |

Well, email sent. Now for the follow on. Aside from smothering it in out door grill paint, what is the best way to protect the muffler for the long haul, so it sees more than the 5k of my current muffler. |

I don't think powder coating is a good idea since heat would make the powder coat soft. I'd have it chromed. NOT Ceramic coating (Jet Hot) is the best way to go. |

Powder Coating is not meant for high heat it begins to melt at 250°. You could get it Ceramic coated. That is what car and bike builders use for custom pipes and mufflers. Colors are limited but Black is always available. Gloss finishes don't always come out looking good. Gloss black tends to lighten up to grey after a while. There is also a nice silver grey that looks like aluminum. |

Gloss powder looks fantastic, especially if cleared. Hi Temp powder is good to over 400 degrees. That said, I would ceramic coat it if I cared (I have an SS Drummer, but if I ran stock I would just BBQ paint it and be done). |

I had mine ceramic coated, then powder coated black, so it looks original. Still looks new. . |

IMO, the silver ceramic would look out of place on a Uly.

Clean it with brake cleaner or carb cleaner and scrub off the chunks. Heat up the muffler, paint sticks better to a hot surface. Spray with hi-temp engine paint, BBQ paint, or rust-oleum. Should last at least as long as a 5k service interval. I simply added it to my list of "service stuff" |

My 2010 looks like crap and has looked like crap since 1K. I'm thinking on having it PC'd this winter as I have been told ceramic will be too brittle for the beating it takes from front tire debris and it can chip off easily............ I did try the cleaning / repainting methods listed above to no avail........ The paint last for a few day and comes right off. The muffler should have been stainless for the beginning.......... |
