I installed the 07 TB o my 06 Uly, I used non original rubber gaskets, as from holland there are thicker ones (blue) that will be a bit more hard to fit in but will for sure prevent any leak.

I picked up a 2004 XB12R throttle body on eBay. Any idea if it will fit?

I would guess that it will fit. If there's any difference it'll probably be the TPS.

Rock on. Time to start tearing the Uly down then. It's been 7 weeks since it broke, and it's making me very sad.

Well I have an update. Now that vacations are all over I called my cousin and he is starting to get material in but still has two jobs ahead of the TB. One job is taking up the whole shop so he expects to have them done by next Tuesday. He will then start programing. The slot is still the biggest problem in production so he will work to make this efficient enough to warrant production. ie, profitable. We talked money and I am not going to make anything on these, in fact, since he is a business we might have you purchase them straight from him. Price will be determined after the cost of production and materials plus overhead and profit are known. I am planning on sending a couple of grade 5 screws for the butterfly and some instructions for installation. Sorry it's taking so long but that's just business in a small shop.

Tootal- Thanks for the persistence from you and your cousin. I have no problem with the wait or the price- I'm sure it will be a first rate product and very much hope to be one of the early testers!

I'm sure this part will be added to the collection as "need to have on hand" during a long trip.

I.E. Spare belt, VR, bearings, levers, TB shaft!!!!

Hey Steve, I just got back from Colorado and thought of you while hitting some major switchbacks that reminded me of the Alps! I was on the Geezer Glide as I was riding with a group but it's still fun grinding that nasty chrome off those foot boards!!

Greg, we passed up on going to a moto event, ride the alps, at the armed forces recreation center at garmisch, Germany to spend the weekend in Rome. Currently having a rest in our room over looking the Trevi fountain; we've had a good time but missing the moto! I'm going to try to make it to the stelvio pass next weekend before the snow hits and closes the roads. Hope you enjoyed your ride eventhough you weren't on your uly!

Well that sounds like a relaxing weekend! The Alps will still be there when you get back! True, the Uly is much more fun in the mountains but when the rest have big Harleys the Uly is rather boring going slow. To be honest though, any bike is fun when ridden to it's potential. It may not be the fastest but it's still entertaining! I love the Uly when riding alone cause any road that looks interesting can be had. Most of my friends hate the thought of gravel or dirt. Hell they bitch about a rough road let alone a gravel one! My one buddy turned 78 the day we got back so I take the Geezer Glide with my trailer so I can haul all the camping gear including a spare chair. I love coming out of a sweeper and checking my mirror and seeing that old coot making sparks! He has the same stupid grin most Uly riders have!

Don't get me wrong, cruisers have their place and I'm considering picking up a street bob just so I can modify it into a badassed lookin bike. I ride with a lot of folks that are on HD's and they can tell when I get bored because I'll weave back and forth in my spot and then eventually pass them. I do almost as much waiting for them to catch up as I do riding sometimes. Although, there are a few of the folks i've ridden with that ride the shit out of their HD's and actually run a fast enough pace through the twisties that I don't need to pass them to have a good time.

That riding in a large group can be a pain. We started this trip with five bikes on the way to Sturgis on back roads. We would get gas and take a break then we would agree to load up. My buddy and I would jump on the bikes, throw up the kick stand and look in the mirror to make sure everybody was ready but what I saw was people getting another drink of soda, taking another goofy picture or lighting up another cigarette! That's their idea of loading up? It was a frustrating ride out as I was leading the pack. I usually ride 5 over the speed limit but to keep everybody together I had to ride 5 under! They would get so spread out I couldn't see most of them in the mirror. Fortunately by the end of Sturgis they bailed on us riding to Colorado as each one had an issue and had to head home. When I got the news I was saying I was sorry to hear that but giving my buddy a thumbs up! The two of us love the twisties, even on the Glides. My buddy, at 78, lives in the mountains of N. Georgia. I have a picture of his front tire on his 97 Ultra. The middle looks good but the sides are worn out! He makes me believe it's the rider, not the ride, that makes it fast! By the time we hit Colorado we both agreed, no more group rides and no more going to Sturgis during Bike Week. We usually go the week before as the menu's are bigger, prices are lower and most of the people there know how to lean a bike around a corner!

Group rides blow. I'll ride with family but only 1 non family is a max for me and that is usually 1 too many.

Talked to cuz on Tuesday but he's got another hot job. In this economy he almost closed his doors. Here lately he's gotten a couple of paying customers so he's been working hard. I'm keeping on him but I know he's got to make a living first.

Hey Greg, I'm just getting caught up on your thread. I am really missing the riding this summer...glad to hear you got to enjoy some of the sweet Colorado roads. I live about 15 miles up Golden Gate Canyon road...and it always makes for a good day when I ride to work. I'll be home on R&R around Christmas...riding the canyon is out that time of year, but maybe I can at least get some Denver riding in on the 1125R. I'm looking forward to riding the Uly back to Colorado from NJ next May or June...and I might have to take the "long way" home and visit some of you guys on the way!

You're more than welcome here. Spare room, garage, beer... I still have your old TB because until we have a working program for machining new ones I wanted to keep the sample. We may change the screws to button heads instead of flatheads to increase the metal thickness at the screws and also make it easier to fabricate.
Hope you can make it by on your trip home.

OK, latest update: My cousin is working on getting the dimensions all ironed out. One thing he didn't like about my drawing was the flathead screws. The countersink required eats up a lot of metal making it weaker in that area. He has suggested using a button head screw, like the original, and just cutting some flats on the shaft. He also said that a smaller 3mm screw would make the shaft stronger and I agree as long as the screw is strong enough and he seems to think it will be fine. So things are finally moving along, I hope a test unit will be out shortly so I can put it in my bike and try it out.

Great news Greg! Everyone should be excited about the progress...and appreciative of all your efforts. My only concern is that many people may miss the opportunity to get to know all the great Buellers across the country (as I have had a couple occasions... while being helped by my Badweb friends)!

Well, supposedly we are getting material today. The problem is getting stainless in metric sizes. His supplier said that the 400 series stainless is a little over size so ordering 5/16" oversize might give us .314" which is close enough to 8mm. (.315") His plan is to wire edm the slot, which means he'll have to send it out, and see what the cost is. Then he will use a slitting saw and end mill in his equipment and see the time that takes. Whichever one is cheaper, with good results, will be the winner. More to come...
