Hey all,

I am currently running the Pirelli Scorpion Trail on the rear of the ULY and have a new set waitin for the 2010 rear wheel and like the wear so far and the ride. Still have the Angel on the front and its wearing like iron.

So Anyway, I have been running the Metz Torance or the new style Scorpion for years now on my V STrom and they have been EXCELENT and very DURABLE. I have commented this in serveral recent tire threads related to the Scorpion Trail.

My new set arrive friday and while ooglin over the new rubber I noticed the carcus of the 190/55/17 is no where near as stiff and tuff as the 150/70/17 I run on the Strom? HUH?

So I look at the side wall and I am somewhat shocked! The build of the 150/70 is 2 ply side wall and 3 ply tread of various materials. The 190/55 is 1 ply side wall and 2 ply tread? WTF???????

So even though I love the tire so far I have talked up how durable the tire is on the Strom and how I could run on it vitually flat for miles. NO WAY on the 190 could I do that. CRAP! SO for now I will SHUT UP about how tough they are untill I wear a few out.

Now the front tire in the 110/80/19 on the Strom and the 120/70 on the ULY are both the tougher 2 ply side wall and 3 ply tread. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT!

The 190 is also dual compound, where as the 150 is not. They are quite different tires made for different types of bikes.

I DID ride mine flat for a good 10 miles though. It looked ugly, but held up fine.

If I were to guess, I'd say a potential reason could be to create a lighter weight tire?!? The 190 was created specifically for the Ducati, and performance would have been a leading factor in that construction.

Odd about the front though.

It is weird about the front and back build. I guess to protect the rim by giving it more skin? Hell if I know. Now I am wondering if the PR2's would resist punchture better than the rear Trail?

The trails are made for off-road use. The PR2's are not. Just like the syncs are not.
