My local HD dealer left me with that sound once. Grrrrrr. Mine sounded like a knock with a small ball peen hammer on the primary cover with each revolution. So it "rings" at idle as Uly Dude described, but goes away with even the lightest clutch drag (well below anything required to move the bike).
