Oh, I can answer that. My local HD dealer left me with that sound once. Grrrrrr. Mine sounded like a knock with a small ball peen hammer on the primary cover with each revolution. It's sort of garbled with all the other rotating mass going on in there, but very noticable.

It also goes away when you lightly load the clutch. So it "rings" at idle as Uly Dude described, but goes away with even the lightest clutch drag (well below anything required to move the bike).

At least that was my experience with my M2...

Crankshaft "nut" ?
The crank end is a bolt (at least on an '08), clutch end has a nut.
