I have to do something about this before I kill myself. What can you guys tell me about putting X triple trees on an XT? Got part#'s and prices? How does the extended WB affect handling? What is the steering angle of an X opposed to the XT? |

I guess you didn't use the search Long thread, but a good read: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/317990.html |

It seems like that would be a backward leap. You would be trading more steering turn sweep for less to gain a tiny bit of rake angle? Seems like a waste of time and like you want a limiting factor on your bike. |

Vern, one of us is confused? If I understand Blackdog correctly, he is wanting more sweep. The XT has the same trees as the 06 and 07 X. Putting the 08+ trees on would be the same thing many of us have done to our older versions. Blackdog, here is a link to a thread I did for installing the trees. I included changing the fork springs but you won't need to do any of that. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442538.html?1236474150 |

Treadmarks was the first to do this and he said he couldn't tell the difference. Others have stated it seemed more stable at high speed and it didn't want to fall into a corner as easy. All I can say is they must be better riders than me. I can't tell much difference in the twisties and it might be a little more stable at speed. All I know for sure is I like it and would not go back. I think guys with crotch rocket back grounds don't mind it but I ride a trials bike where you can almost get 90 degrees out of the front wheel so it was freaky to me. |

UHOOOOOH! Excuse me! I did not see where he specified '08 X or newer trees and I in my failing old age forgot the XT can't turn around either! It is the fumes I tell ya! Forty years of walking around open thinner barrels does something to a man. I did one of these on an '06 for a friend of mine. I did not see enough difference to make it worth the expense and effort in my case. One of the things I do frequently is turn my bike around in the back of a box truck so that I can ride it down the ramp. With the stock '06 X it takes 12 back and forth turning movements(ala Austin Powers in the airport cart in a hall way). After the change on his bike it took eight movements. In total it would save me about four strokes of back and forth movements saving me about twelve seconds per truck to turn the bike around. As far as riding it goes, it has never been an issue with me. Therefore I never did the change over to my bike. |

Took me a while to get used to the limited turn on the 08 XT. I came from a dual sport. I sit on the outside of the seat in a slow speed corner to get a tighter turn. I think I need a trials bike for winter riding. |

That's ok Vern, I understand you painters. I work with a few of them and they never seem mad. The happiest group in the plant! I know you know why! |
