Hey fellow Buellers, I'm planning a trip from Southwest US down into Brazil (entry via north Brazil). As far as rubber goes, anyone have experience running Metzeler Tourances on the XB12X? Do they have a front 17" yet? I'm looking for something longer wearing and with more bite (than Scorpion Trials) to help mitigate the bikes elephantine weight, sport bike angles and small front wheel when off slab. Lots of info on this on Advrider. From what I've seen, the off road style tires give you crap for mileage - as in 2-3k. Motorcycle Superstore has a large selection of tires and you can review the sizes available. If you're not going off the tarvy much, you'd probably be better off with the Pilot Road 2's. I am running the Avon Distanzias and will end up getting about 6k on the rear and 10k on the front. | ||

19" or 21" options only for the front Tourance. The fattest rear available is a 150, which may be doable for the Uly. You could then perhaps pair that up with a Distanzia or MT60 front. The tournace would be an excellent choice otherwise. I do not know of any comparable options for the Uly that offer both the combined mileage and off-pavement grip of the Tourance. A long-time riding buddy has always used the Tourance on his 1150GS and typically gets 9K out of the rear and 13K from the front. | ||

Maybe Skinstains will chime in. He was running the MT60/TKC80 combo on his X at West Fest this summer. The TKC was a 150 and did not seem to have fitment problems. Might be worth a try with the Tourance's if they get that kind of mileage. Something I'll look into for sure. May also consider the Pirelli MT-60R front & rear (160) - have to research the mileage on those too. | ||

I ran MT-60's this summer in Alaska. I loved they way they handled in dry dirt and gravel. When it came to mud, I wished I had bigger lugs, but didn't want to have to modify the tires and bike to fit a TKC front. I put on 3500 miles before changing the tires out for Distanzia's. 1200 of those miles were dirt / gravel / mud. The rear was toast around 2000 miles actually, but I limped it back to Fairbanks nearly bald. The bike was pretty heavily loaded for all of these miles. The front still has a few thousand miles left in it. It's still sitting in Fairbanks. I didn't feel like carrying it home, and it isn't worth the shipping for me to run a used tire here. If any of you are up there and could use it, I'll hook you up.  Eric. | ||

I ran Dunlop 616's to Alaska, 1000 miles of the TAT and all of the TWAT. Dropping the tire pressure for gravel and dirt worked great. Get about 7000 mi. on the rear 10,000 on front |
