My 2009 Uly is coming up on it's 10K maintenance. I want to replace the fork oil on my 2009 XB12X. Unfortunately, I only have my 2006 XB12X service manual; I haven't yet bought the 2009 manual. Since the 2009 uses a larger fork leg, I assume that the quantity of oil, torque specs, etc are different than that of the 2006. Could any of you help me out with the fork oil replacement specs please? Thanks ahead of time! |

Michael, I've been away visiting my father for a week so I have an excuse. The fork oil is measured the same way as the '06 (I have both an '06X and an '09XT) - the oil level for the '09X is 4.49" (114mm). |

I've got 30K on my ULY and it still has the same fork oil. |

Are you sure about the fork being larger? I do not recall hearing that before. The 'o6 had different fork oil height specs than the '07+ because of the '07 switch to a different (triple rate progressive) fork spring. I was able to find the '07 specs on Badweb when I switched out the springs on my '06. I do not have them handy here at work (though appears Rays just gave them to you), but they are here if you search. I used the H-D fork oil (Type E, IIRC) as recommended in the manual, when I did my fork service. Changing your folk oil once in a while should help you extend your fork seal life, based on dirt bike experience (though my Uly oil doesn't get nearly as dirty). |

08+ X and XP models use larger 47mm forks. XT still has the 43mm forks. Either way, the oil levels are different. (I don't have a book handy to confirm the posted levels) |

Yeppers, like Froggy said, they increased the size of the fork legs on the X and XP, but the XT was not increased. It's like they're using aircraft landing gear struts on modern motorcycles! If any of you have the cc's that my forks require, I'd really appreciate it. |

09 service manual says 4.49 in (114mm) for the X and 4.69 in (119mm)for the xt That is the oil level (air space above the oil). I'm trying to find the ccs needed but can't seem to locate it |

What I should have added was that in their wisdom with the new multi-model service manual they didn't include a list of different fork oil capacities. The oil level is only a mm different to the '06 so based on the forks being the same diameter I would say the capacity would only be slightly more than the '06 (17.75 fl ozs. / 533cc) per leg. |
