I had a wheel Bearing go out on me today. Bad thing is we are at a campground in Tennessee 400 miles from home. The wheel is off but the inner race came apart. What do I need to get the outer race out. First day of our week long trip. | ||

You can use a screwdriver or anything like that to tap the outer race out. Tap one side, then the other. Don't let it get out of square and be patient. | ||

I believe the inner bearing bore of the wheel is smaller than the bearing race. Not sure you would be able to drive it out, unless you had some sort of an expanding collett to catch in the raceway where the balls lived. | ||

If you can get it to someone with an arc welder have them run a bead across it in two places 180 degrees apart. As it cools it will shrink and fall out. Sure there's not one at the campground but ask if there's any farmers around that neck of the woods, they usually have a buzz box that would work. | ||

I have a used wheel w/ good bearings & an almost new Sync on it. I could send it Greyhound or Red. | ||

Glad you got fixed. You should be OK for ~8000 miles at the least; some go MUCH longer. If you want to fix it as permanently as possible, get a 2010 rear wheel and axle while they're still available. | ||

Is the 2010 model a better design or just extra bearing? That wheel should have been completely redesigned. | ||

+1 on the 2010 wheel. Just put one on my 06 and it's a huge improvement. It's much stronger than even my big Harley!  | ||

The 2010 wheel has three bearings, each bearing is larger than the ones used in the pre-2010 wheels, and it has separate external seals. The axle is hard-black anodized so it won't corrode like the earlier bare aluminum axles. It's a MUCH better set up. | ||

Sorry Hugh but Buell never used an ALUMINUM axle. They were plated steel. The new axle is "black oxide coated" steel, hit it with a magnet and see. | ||

How hard is it to check that inner 3rd bearing for smooth operation when the wheel is off? If it were stiff turning or notchy, what would you do? I'd like one of those new setups but want all the facts. | ||

Real easy. Just reach past the first one and spin it. They might all spin but you should be able to feel it. My question is, if one is bad then why not replace them all? I think it's a mute point though, this is a real beefy set up. 30mm ID X 62mm OD X 16mm width. These bearings are bigger than my Road Glide and there's three of them with outer seals to boot. I say get it and forget it! | ||
