Just did the 15k service and went to a 10/40 in the motor and 60 in the tranny [ out of service interval but I was experimenting ] -AMSOIL

I'm not pleased with the 10 / 40 but love the 60 in the trans. Little buzzy after its hot. SHifts so much slicker now.

Have any of you ran a 60 WT. in the engine? If so, what do you think.

These HD derived engines have been using 20w50 for almost 30 years and I wouldn't use anything else in mine. 10w40 is fine if you ride in the winter.
As far as the transmission goes, I've used Custom Chrome Rev-Tech transmission oil and it was ok, then switched to HD transmission oil and did notice it shifting smoother.
So, in my book, use what's recommended by the manufacturer.

Amsoil 60 WT. works really well in the transmission. A bit smoother in the shifts as compared to the Amsoil 20/50 Wt.

The HD motor co. makes a good oil - Amsoil is technically the best. Seat of the pants dyno can feel the difference.

Wow 60 WT? I'll be sticking with 20w50 in the summer and 10w40 in the winter, per manual instructions. (All Amsoil for me)

I haven't noticed any issues to warrant experimenting outside the recommended weights.

Syn3 for all our Buells, every hole.

Guess I'm just not one for reinventing the wheel if I don't have to.

Bikes seem happy enough, and the oil is easy to get if I need some on a trip. <shrug>

I ran 60W in the summer in my City-X which was happy to have it. It is difficult to find straight 60W in parts stores.

Funny how many people will jump up and say it is wrong, too thick, stupid choice and things like that, but it is recommended in the service manual, owners manual, and HD temp charts for summer use.

The only reason I don't have it in mine is that I am not paying HD $13 a quart for oil. My local suppliers do not carry it that I have found.

60 wt. in the tranny sounds like a good idea. How is the clutch liking it? Since the stator doesn't like gear oil the 60 wt. sounds like a better alternative than the 20/50. I'll check with my AMSOIL supplier.

PS, the little buzzy I mentioned earlier was funky gas. I'm noticing the Uly likes Shell 93 out of a dedicated hose. If I pump gas out of a single hose dispenser, I am getting a certain amount of Regular. Then I get a bit of spark knock. When I really concentrate on buying gas from dedicated 93 octane dispensers of reputable brand name gasolines, there seems to be a noticeable improvement in performance and drivability. I recently ran some 100 octane Sun. Seat of the pants dyno said it was good.
