Five years ago I began taking an annual trip to NC with a few friends. It was on the second trip that I started wanting something besides my FXDX. That desire is what eventually led me to Buells after looking at many different bikes.

What started out as a group of three has grown to nine of us this year. One is already in NC, so eight of us will be traveling up together. There are things I enjoy about riding alone, but there are also things I enjoy about riding in groups. Eight is a bit much, but they are good guys and I am really looking forward to it. Of course, I am the only one on a Buell. The rest are cruisers except for one Can Am Spyder.

We will do the Blueridge, Cherohala, and Dragon among other roads. I'll try to take some photos and share them when I get back.

Till then...

Watch for bears and turkeys too! Believe it or not... only Goldielocks was missing when three bears ran out onto the Blue Ridge down near Cherokee this June. Juveniles for sure, but definitely over 150 lbs each. A couple of close calls with startled turkeys too. If you start looking for them, they're everywhere. Enjoy it, ride last and rubberband the group if they're a bit slower.

Sounds familiar.
I friend of mine invited be down with him from MI/OH about 9-10 years ago, when I had my (then new) BMW R1200C cruiser.
We stayed at the Blue Ridge MC campground in Cruso, and I rode with mostly sport standards and Triumph naked bikes, and ground my kickstand just to keep them in sight.
It took me 6+ years, but I eventually found my way to gainful employment in Asheville area, and am now "the Local" when this same group comes down here to ride each May.
I still have the cruiser, but only the Buell is capable of keeping ahead of these guys. OK, the KTM can if I could stand to ride it for more than 1 hour at a time!
They are all very experienced riders on mostly BMW sport touring and GS bikes.
I have yet to find a group down here to ride with.
Seems most are either cruisers (too slow and more social than riding), or too old and set in there ways (long tours, not very open to new members).

Enjoy your ride, and don't forget M28 and Wayah Rd.

Well, we made it to Dublin, GA today. It rained on us almost the whole way. I think the rain is clearing out though, so hopefully tomorrow will be nice.

I will say that 8 is a bit too many riders for me. Too much waiting. Still, it was a good but very wet day.

8 is too many riders... I find anything more than 2 is too much, maybe 3 if they are all in sync as far as stops, riding speed, etc...
