I have to change my brake pads for the first time, bought the bike used in March. Never had any of the pulsing problems some report, The front disc is new from March (stock). I have a 2008 XB12X. Any recommendations regarding brake pads? Should I just go for the stock dealer pad? Thanks, MMcC |

I use the stock pads. They work OK for me. |

EBC HH, for me better and cheaper than stock, Al at American Sport Bike has them. |

I put a set of Galfer sintered on the rear early on when the bike was less than a year old. Noticeable difference for the good. A lot less fade than the stock. Will be doing the fronts this winter and will most likely go with the Lyndal Golds although I've had zero problems with the stock pads there. |

im in love with the 804 pads from Erik Buell Racing. Im rethinking getting the 8 piston caliper now. |

Are the pulsing problems an indication of the need for new pads? I know this has come up a few times elsewhere. Or was that an indication of a bad rotor? I was on my front brakes hard a few times this past weekend and could feel a very noticeable pulse. |

The pulsing is an indication of deposit buildup on the rotor. New pads will help. New pads may fix the problem, or just make it go away for "a while." If the pulsing keeps coming back, a new rotor is all that is going to fix it. I'm currently using the EBC HH pads. I've also tried the Lyndal Gold (and gold plus) pads. I think the general consensus is that the sock pads are particularly prone to deposit buildup, but I've had it happen with Lyndals too. |

+1 to everything Jlnance said. If you do need a new rotor, you can get a 6 mm racing rotor (+1 mm thicker than standard) from Erik Buell Racing cheaper than you can buy the stock replacement. |

Is it recommended to hit the rotor/pads with Brake Clean? Maybe a 3M pad and Brake Clean on the rotor? Or is that a big no-no? |

Is it recommended to hit the rotor/pads with Brake Clean? Maybe a 3M pad and Brake Clean on the rotor? Or is that a big no-no? It won't hurt the rotor, but you don't want to leave it on your wheel long or it my hose up the paint. It's certainly worth a try. I had front brake pulsing issues and tried it and it helped for a short while, but they came back. I invested in the Erik Buell Racing 6 mm rotor, revised mounting hardware and the EBC HH pads and haven't had a problem since. (Message edited by Hughlysses on September 21, 2010) |

Could not get rid of the brake pulsing even after repeatedly cleaning the rotor and installing after market pads. Pulsing never went completely away and always came back. Switching to the Erik Buell Racing 6mm rotor and Lyndall Gold solved the problem. Changed at the same time the wooden feeling OEM pads in the rear to sintered Ferodo's. What an amazing difference on both brakes. Super progressive feel and improved stopping power front and rear. The pads from American Sport Bike are worth every penny IMHO. |

Cryo'd Lyndall Gold pads; work great. No pulsing for the last year. |
