Hello all I just bought a 2008 XB12XT with 3500 miles and I love it what a really fun machine but i have a couple questions.
Sometimes it idles high and hunts around between 1000 and 2000 rpm any thoughts on why this is happening.
Also I want to put a drummer or a special ops pipe on it. I want it a little deeper sounding but not obnoxious whats the difference between these two pipes? Is one louder than the other? Which is better performance wise? Thanks for the help.

How do the police feel about loud pipes in Brooklyn?

I'm in NYC and if you are in Brooklyn the pipe will likely get your bike drug (they don't set them on, they drag them on their side) onto a flatbed and toted off to the West Side Highway.

I've never had it happen. My cousin has twice.

Do a TPS reset, they may help with the idle.

Asking about exhausts on this board is like asking which is better COKE or PEPSI. It is all about personnel preference. I personnally like the Drummer better, it has a deeper sound to it IMO. Don't get me wrong the Spec-Ops is a fine pipe but it has a little bit of a hollow sound to it, but once again just my opinion. I have a race pipe on my 09 X and I am going back to stock. For long rides I like the quietness that it provides. Yes I will miss the loud pipe sound from time to time but that is what I have the X1 for.

Hey Court, you gotta be kidding right? I'll be in NYC (somewhere in Brooklyn visiting my son) next weekend. Where are the good places to ride?

I'm planning on heading to Boston area after that, and plan to exist NYC to the E, through Long Island and take the ferry up to CT. Good idea?

Everybody makes that call for themselves. . . . these are all within 20 minutes of Times Square.

I'm heading back down the the World Trade Center site . . . .drop me a note if you need specifics.

Great places . . . in my mind . . to ride . . are Manhattan on early Sunday morning . . . then I head up kind of an obscure road that I'm not going to name here but would be happy to give you the maps for. Let me know if I can help.

Those are all fairly old (like a year) photos but last week I spent one day "Model shooting" and another all day in Central Park. You can't go wrong, in NYC, spending an entire day in the park or hitting the various "art park" like Socrates . . .

Court is great Buell ambassdor
However he can lead you in to trouble in some ways. Erik says never get in an airplane with him 2. You really should'nt drive on sidewalks in NY. 3 Be ready to run if he gets caught in a girl in boots photo shoot. Court ,Blake a few others started what became Badweb in the tuber days. Blake has kept this great Buell Resource going, Welcome you will find some very great folks here.

I've also heard that you shouldn't follow Court down a farm lane (driveway) in Wisconsin.

Just sayin'.

He is, however, one of the finest human beings I've ever met : )

This stuff tends to get blown out of proportion . . .

1) That was ONE botched landing . . . and after I hadn't flown for 10 years . . . perhaps it's the FAA's fault for not putting expiration dates on SEL licenses.

2) The sidewalk was a bit "iffy" but there is plenty of room in Queens. Frankly, if I hadn't, effortlessly, parallel parked from the right side, from the sidewalk, right into the open space . . . it would have never been mentioned.

P.S. - that was quickly eclipsed a couple weeks later when, on a misty night, I used an F-150 to "relocate" a car to make room in a parking space . . . . only to discover I'd just moved an unmarked NYPD car in a "POLICE ONLY" spot . . . we left quickly.

3) It's coming up on "boots season" and I went and practices today. : ) Guilt as charged.

4) The bike on the farm lane was no big problem to me . . . wasn't my bike.

: )

Doc,
I live about 45 minutes north of boston right on the NH line. Although I don't think I can help you with options for good rides, I can tell you that you will be able to see the famous Big Dig in all its ridiculously overpriced glory.

Lots of great things to do in the downtown area. Sam Adams beer is brewed in the downtown area you can get a tour there, and I have to tell you to check out the NE clam chowder at the Union Bay Oyster House. Full Raw bar if you are into that, and there is the Charlestown Navy Yard with Old Iron Sides at its normal berth. Just watch out for the cages, especially the taxi's as they all think they own the road. Of course I can't give you directions even though I lived in the downtown area for 6 years, as I just did it by memory. And depending on whether the Sox are in town you could catch a ball game or tour the oldest ball park in the game.

In addition you may wish to contact Crusty, as he may have some rides out by him. I am pretty sure he is north and west of the city.

I suggest the trip out to the ferry on long island, as it is nice out there. I spent a few years there as well. The ferry ride is great. And I believe reasonably priced. You can go about half way out and get the ferry from Port Jeff, or go all the way out to Montauk. The later being a quaint little town. Some fishing history there I believe.

Good riding and be safe!
d
