I'm going to Milwaukee for a couple days tomorrow to see one of my best friends who moved there last year. (and to go to the KISS concert - tickets are a birthday present to him from his wife).

Even though I live in the Twin Cities, I decided to cash in some frequent flyer miles for a free ticket (MSP to Milwaukee on Wed., and then to Duluth on Friday for Labor Day at our cabin), so I won't have the Uly. I'm trying to milk my front tire through the end of the riding season here, and a 700 mile ride from here to Milwaukee to Duluth would probably fry it so flying is easier, though less fun.

Anyway, he has to work Thursday, so I decided to rent a car, and in addition to going to the H-D museum (insert snide comment here, but I'm still a fan of all motorcycles), I've decided to take the 40 mile or so trip to East Troy. I know it's an empty warehouse, and I know it will make me sad, but I still feel like I need to make the pilgrimage to the site of where my Uly was built. As one of the members of the Buell cult - it's just something I want to do.

I wouldn't feel too bad about that pilgrimage. Erik Buell Racing.....you know who..... is just around the corner in the next building.

If you E mail them for an appointment, you might get to say hi, who knows?

remember, while in East Troy, stop by Gus's drive-in!

you might try sending Erik a message that your coming, Erik Buell Racing is located in the building right behind where the Buell factory was located

H-D Museum is worth the price of admission. Students get $4 discount. Get there when it opens because there is so much to see and read. I've been there twice.

Discochris, I know how you feel. My brother and I went to the factory liquidation sale in January, not so much to buy anything but just because I wanted to see where my bike was built. It was fun to see it but still kind of sad.

We also toured the H-D Museum, which is very interesting. I especially liked the old bikes that looked just as they did when they received them, not all chromed and polished up. Thanks.

Discochris-We made a similar side trip to East Troy on our journey from Minnesota back home to Florida. We never made it to any of the homecoming events and it was bittersweet to see where our bikes were created. We made a 1/2 day out of it: had lunch at Gus's, visited the train museum in East Troy (our son is a locomotive buff), and enjoyed riding the local roads.

I've been to the factory twice, once for the Last Ride and for the 2010 Homecoming.
When it really struck me was sitting at Alpine Valley looking at all the bikes in the parking lot and thinking"how can it be over-the only American sport bike will be no more"

Both times I met Erik it was smiles and handshakes, what a great guy.

I was waiting for some other BadWebers to arrive at Alpine Valley and Unionman pulled in on his Uly with his wife on the back at went through a mud puddle and gassed it and spun up some mud,I was laughing and I looked behind me and there was Erik with a big smile-classic.

While not a KISS fan myself I was stunned to see their patriotism and encouragement to our soldiers.
