From the short ride I took last night.. I think I am going to like the 9 primary drive. The bike also seemed to run smoother, so maybe the lack of juice from the stator was causing some other problems.
Local dealer has the switch housing in stock so I will be picking it up at lunch time today
Some on here have had the elec. part of the ign. switch cause a problem like that also. Try moving the key back and forth. When ever I sand the connection between the main frame and the seat rail my bike cranks faster, there is a t.s.b. about it.
Did you see the way we were loaded down? I could barely keep the front end on the ground as it was!
So you're sayin' this is kinda like changing the final drive sprockets / pulleys?
and
If my reasoning is correct, since we (with a belt) can't just go out and buy a longer belt (like you can with a chain) this is easier / cheaper / faster than changing the final drive.
well, the local dealer had the switch housing in stock. Plugged it in and ba da bing!! it fired right up. Took if for a short shake down run and and put it on the tender when I got back....GREEN light! WOOO HOOO all fixed!
I'll be heading to the Hocking Hills/Nelsonville OH to teach a MSF class at the local college this weekend... great ride there, great ride back!
Wolf...the XB9 gearing is where the "smooth" is coming from. Love it. Rode to MT and back to WA with it. No issues. 75 mph is 4K rpm. Fine with me. Love the low gear...idleing away from the stoplights. Euly
So.. I went to Nelsonville Ohio today. About a 165 mile round trip. The fuell light came on at the 140 mile mark.
So.... I am doing the same trip again tomorrow and I will see if it comes on at 140 again. I just topped the bike off to the bottom of the filler neck. I not 100% sure it was totally full for todays trip.
It is back to charging like it should. I plugged it into the tender when I got home and the green light was on within 5 minutes.
... I also spent last night trying to find a short under the dash. The auxiliary plug kept loosing power... gps on, gps off, gps on, gps off... over and over and over....
a while back I added LED marker light to the hand guards so I thought for sure that was the problem. I cut all the wires, and hooked auxiliary plug back up the way it was... no dice! I messed with if for about a hour, got pissed and just ran another ground to the frame... and... all is better now.... kinda bummed I cut out all the plugs for the lights. I had them set up so It would be easy to remove them... now it will be even easier... just unscrew the big wire nut
Mark, Where did you get the XB9 engine sprocket? It looks different from the one pictured on American SportBike in that the sprocket looks like its lighter, (less rotational mass). I'm looking to do the XB9 sprocket change too. --Michael
