Need help guys! I am having trouble getting home from the trans-Labrador. My engine, bucks, cuts, and surges.... then eventually will run on only 1 cylinder then skips, and skips, and then will stall. If I wait a while I can usually get it started again, and it will usually back fire a bit, then I good to go.... for a while until it starts all over again. Any Ideas? Is this the same as the runs skip problem? ANything I can do in the field? Could it be because I had to fill it with Regular gas instead of super? Plz help! thx, matt |

It's impossible to be sure from here but I would change spark plugs. At least see which one is not firing and change it. |

spark plugs are relatively new only 3000km. |

Intake leak or fuel pump problem. Pull the front plug and see if it's rich or lean. If rich check for intake leak as the ecm might be trying to correct a lean condition. If lean then it's starving for fuel pointing at fuel pump. Did it start right after filling the tank? How much fuel do you have left? Regular gas won't do what your describing but water in the gas would. |

new plugs can fail too, I've had it happen before. |

I agree, check the plugs; go from there. |

That is not the FL/R/S problem many of us have dealt with. I agree with pulling the plugs, at least that will give you a read on a loose plug wire and its fueling position. That regular gas could potentially have had water in it too. Could try a fuel sample off the bottom of the tank. |

Spark, fuel, compression, and timing. Make sure a spark plug didn't back out, foul or wire not seated right. fuel could be tank not venting, (whack the valve to the right of the filler neck to fix that). A fuel pump not delivering but if it runs once cool I doubt it. Spark could be an ECM connector under the seat? you never know re-seat it and try both connectors. Look up the TPS reset procedure for 08's and do that also, can't hurt. Wish I could have been with you on the ride, strength in numbers. GOOD LUCK. |

The symptoms sound like an electrical issue, most likely an intermittent ground. Check your plug wires carefully, replace if possible. Then check the ECM connectors, you may have a crack or loose wire. The fact that it comes and goes make is sound like it's seat induced. You should be able to fix with electrical tape or epoxy once you find the crack or chaffed spot. |

If it were me, I'd add "head temperature sensor" to the list of things to check. |

If the plugs were just changed I'd take a good look at the plug wires to make sure they are fully seated on the plugs and check for a plug wire rub through. When it starts missing and the engine is hot, pull over and listen for the fan-it should be running. |

When i cuts out, do you hear the fuel pump cut back in once you go to start it again? If not, I'd check your fuel pump wires outside, and inside the tank if necessary. |

Mine was doing that, when I went to check my plugs I noticed my plug wire was just resting on top of the plug only sometimes making contact. After I reinstalled the plug wire she was fine. |

Ok well, Thanks for all of the help. I am now back home in Montreal. Wasn't an easy ride back but I made it! I pulled out the fan fuse to see if that did anything... didn't fix the problem but the bike did stop cut AS hard?? it would still skip but when it did the bike wouldn't dive forward like when the fan fuse was installed. Also instead of cutting and skipping untill stalling, it caused me to not beable to go past 4000rpm?? I ended up driving home WOT at 120km/h in 5th gear. Sometime when I would lay off the gas I could get it to catch again and then be fine for 100km, but if I would ever slow down then it would revert to skipping and cutting. At one point it got really bad and the engine light went on! so I brought it to the dealer today to check what the code is. |

That sounds like either a bad ground or a bad stator that has blown the Voltage Regulator and pumping major voltage around blowing headlights etc. |

Here are the engine codes from the dealer: 1-Exhaust actuator stuck closed, 2-Fan control circuit low 3-Oxygen sensor open or inactive Dealer also said that my starter was completely jammed, could explain my difficulties starting. any ideas? |
