blew fuel pump fuse at 1,600 miles very hot day in town. new fuse ran fine. not too keen on going out of town very rural area. dealer 100 miles away. suggestions on problem anyone. | ||

I wouldn't think that a hot day would blow a fuse. There must be a short somewhere. | ||

Could've been a bad fuse. I had a fuse blow on my '06 Uly very early on. Never happened again in 15k miles. | ||

Some of the 09's have bad fuel pumps that will blow fuses. Get it replaced under warranty. | ||

I have an 09 that blew a fuel pump fuse once, in slow traffic, on a very hot day, with a low fuel level. Hasn't happened again since. My bike has 26k on it and that is the only running issue it has had. Carry spares. | ||

More info please. "Blew a fuse" doesn't help much. Was your fuel level low? If your pump isn't submerged in fuel, and it's hot out, you can overheat the pump. Then, your fuse acts like a circuit breaker...but you can't reset it. Like Froggy and Wesman say - carry some spare fuses, and get the dealer to replace it under warranty. Either they will...or they'll find that your pump is just fine and doesn't need to be replaced. Either way, you win and you get peace of mind back. | ||

Last month I blew the fuel pump fuse on my 09XP while touring through California. It was toward the end of a very hot day, but since I had ~2 gallons in the tank I don't think fuel level was an issue. Since I was staying in Chico for a coupla days, I took it to Hall's HD for a once-over. They bumped me to the top of service queue and inspected the wiring harness, tested the pump, looked for shorts--nothing. Since then I've ridden about 2,000 miles without incident (but I must admit that I have been paying more attention than before to roadside shoulders, just in case). Given Buell's history of fuel pump problems, I don't buy the "bad fuse" theory--it defies logic to think that a huge number of faulty fuses magically find their way into the fuel pump circuit. | ||

There were a significant number of 06 Ulys reported here that had a wire rub through on the fuel pump, but AFAIK, that's the only "history" of fuel pump problems they've had. If Hal's inspected your pump, obviously that's not the problem. | ||

Good point Hughlysses, but that still leaves me wondering why so many post-06 models blow fuel pump fuses, seemingly at a higher frequency than other components. I love my Buell, but whether related to faulty pumps, heat, low fuel, or wiring problems, this thread indicates that people are still experiencing intermittent issues, and history is still being made. | ||

Hot electrical motors pull more amperage in order to do their job. It's not Buell...it's physics. | ||

Just thought I'd add that my 09 XB12XT blew a fuel pump fuse once on Hwy 501 leaving Myrtle Beach in the heat, slow traffic, and around 2 gallons of fuel. Then Once again in NC 90+ degree day in stop and go race traffic, around 2 gallons of fuel. I'm beginning to see a trend in low fuel, hot day. First time no comfort kit, second time comfort kit installed. I should add I ride the bike in hot conditions a lot, and around 7000 miles only twice isn't too bad. JC | ||

I have also blown a fuel pump fuse on my 09 Uly. It was a very hot day and the low fuell light was on. Haven't had it happen since. I have a budy in Oregon that experienced the same thing, only it has happened to him twice. He also has an 09 Uly. There certainly is a trend here. does anyone have any suggested fixes other than checking for grounded wires? | ||

The fix is to replace the fuel pump, as there was a bad batch. | ||

Right before my warranty was up, I took my 09 Uly to the Dealership and they replaced the fuel pump. Took over two weeks for them to get the part though. They had to remove the rear wheel for the fuel pump. Mechanic said my wheel bearings still felt good, we shall see... | ||

Mine blew the other day, first time. Same conditions, very hot weather, fuel light was on with less than a gallon in tank. 09 XT with 17,000 km. Guess it's one of the bad fuel pumps? Since it's off warranty, I'll leave it alone, keep riding to see if it happens again and refill the tank sooner. |
