Had the XT sold on a decent deal, taking a more dirt oriented bike plus cash and couldn't part with it. Came to the realization that the only thing I'd replace it with would be an XP. Given that I ride alone 99.9% of the time, I'm not venturing that far off road. I will also jump on the bike and go for a 200 mile "spin" around the neighborhood - as in yesterday riding from Billings to Red Lodge, over the Beartooth Pass, across the Chief Joseph Highway and back to Billings. Don't want to do that sitting on a 2x4 covered with vinyl. Also is the fact that I have the XT set up exactly the way I want. Should the belts ever become an issue, I'll do the chain conversion. Maybe even a 2010 wheel, but I've had no trouble there so far. I replaced the original orange sealed bearings as a preventative measure, but they are in excellent condition and saved them for spares. Looks like I'll be around for a while. |

Save your pennies and buy a decent $1000 1995 or later Kawasaki KDX-200 or KDX-220. Throw it in a trailer, and play pure offroad with that, and use the Uly the other 99.9% of the time. A much better option than any street legal dual sport (IMHO). |

Thinking maybe a little Ducati would look real nice next to it. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20 9019 |

Bearings cost so little, throw those orange ones out and buy some decent spares and the spacer that goes between them. |

Might be a good idea. I lent the spacer to some guy at West Fest to pound the neck bearing race out of his KLR. |

I knew you could not sell it! Get a Husky TE 610 and spank your dirt buddies. Change seats. The 07 and 07's have a carb and 5+ aftermarket tanks available. The 610 will run 80 all day. Does not have the frame for gear like say a KLR which would be good back up bike for your back country rides. Or DR 650. Sold mine though last month. Too crude to ride anymore. Dang Buell spoiled me. Got the XB9 gearing now...tires and barkbusters next. Euly |

Brian, wish I had that route in my "neighborhood" .......rode the Uly on that magnificent route for the first time right about this time last year on my journey out from Virginia and back......WOW, I still daydream about that route......keep that Uly going |

I find it to be a holy obligation to take that ride at least twice a year. Did it the day after the pass opened earlier this year. Never ceases to amaze me and it's always different because of weather, light conditions, other riders and traffic. Rock slides and gravel on the switchback curves are always an attention getter. Going to take a run up to Hell Roaring Plateau which is across from the Beartooth Pass. You can ride up to the top, but not on the plateau anymore - no motorized vehicles. Given the nature of the landscape and the pristine conditions, that's not a rule I'm opposed to. I've done the road on horseback, the Uly should be pretty interesting as it's gravel/dirt/rocks. |

Not a big sled fan myself, even when I lived in MN. End of the snowmobile season at the TOW.

There you go! It is pretty physical. Long tracks, back country, deep powder and sunshine. I can just OD on that. Love any kind of riding really. Started out all over Augusta, Little Belts, the Breaks, Lincoln area in 62 on Tote Goats, then little Harleys and then Jap bikes mid 60's. There were no off-road laws. We went everywhere. Euly |
