Can't wait to get my new Zumo 550, I have been lusting after one ever since they came out. My Quest 2 finally bit the dust and stopped working, so I made the plunge and ordered the 550.

When it gets here I will be one happy camper

I'm gonna put the uly Quest on the X1 and then get the Zumo. Hopefully this year. As I get older smaller things are getting harder to look at. I started using reading glasses about 3 years ago.

I think all the Quest2 needs is an external antenna, it just stopped acquiring satellites in the middle of a ride last week. Since then it will not acquire signal, everything else works fine. I was thinking of buying the external antenna since it is only $31, I would have a backup unit.

It is a bad connection inside the unit. You can take it apart and fix it easily.

Where did you get it and how much?

The ebay $15 antennas work great, and have lasted as long as the factory Garmin antenna I got.

Hotrod...

Put the quest right side up and face down in front of you.

Remove the two screws on the right (thin part of back to right of antenna). Careful, there is a spring loaded hinge thing in the antenna.

Remove the side bracket you just took the screws out of (quest does not come apart, just that little section of the back).

Gently pry close to the hinge, prying the antenna straight to the right (the left hinge of that thing is actually a little snap connector). It will pop right out.

Use a toothpick and some contact cleaner (or isopropyl alchohol, or WD-40) to clean both ends of that connector.

Reassemble in reverse.

That will probably fix your problem... for a while. You can repeat it two or three times before it goes completely, at which point the external antenna works great.

I replaced my Quest (not 2) with a Zumo 450. After several warranty repairs the Quest finally bit the dust. The only thing I miss is the ability to display elevation continuously while riding (not possible on Zumo; you have to tap the screen on the "vehicle image").

Otherwise, in my experience the Zumos are good units. I hope yours works out.

My unit came today, I finished the install but have not had a chance to us it yet.

I tried to update the maps (my free update) but not enough memory. If I add an SD card will that help? Also what kind of SD card? SDHC or other?

Thanks
